News travels fast these days. Vice Magazine's online television station - VBS.tv - has a show called Soft Focus, a series of interviews with different musicians by Ian Svenonius. Ian recently conducted an exclusive interview with My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields which won't air until Monday. Nonetheless, the web is already abuzz with what Kevin told Ian in this new interview. To sum it up, My Bloody Valentine were working on an album when they split up. Kevin and Belinda kept working on the music for another few years. Now, Shields is making public that My Bloody Valentine have regrouped in the studio and will finish the album with fresh material and release it! There is no word yet on whether this will lead to any live performances. According to the Daily Swarm, the transcript of Kevin Shields' interview that discusses the album goes like this:
We were making a record in the 90s, around when the band broke up in 1995…and I continued with Belinda. We kinda made we made most of an album….It’s going to be this ‘96/‘97 record half-finished record finished, and then a compilation of stuff we did before that in 1993–94, and a little bit of new stuff.I pretty much know what the one that’s going to come out this year is going to sound like because its already pretty much 3/4’s done already…it sounds like what we sounded like – different but not radically different. People will go, "Yeah, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine."http://www.myspace.com/mybloodyvalentineKevin Shields speaking about music in March 2007:
