RIP Hank Thompson And His Seven Decades Of Country Music

Posted about 1 year ago
Hank Thompson's seven decade career as a country music singer and songwriter came to an end late Tuesday night. The 82-year old singer lost the battle to aggressive lung cancer on November 6th 2007. He played his last show on October 8th in his native Waco, Texas and was forced to cancel the rest of his shows shortly after to enter hospice care for the lung cancer. He led a full and successful life for 82 years: he's performed on seven continents, he released 79 charted hits, and was a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He recently finished writing his autobiography with writer Warren Kice, titled "My Side of Life," a play on his most famous country hit, "The Wild Side of Life." The book is due for release this month. He recorded the song during his first session ever, with Capitol in 1951.The best recollection of his life and career that I have seen, is on CMT.comHis website says that a celebration of his life will be held on November 14th at Billy Bob's Texas. The website also says where his fans can make donations in lieu of flowers.
