Four Dead From Gang Shooting During Carl Cox DJ Set In Venezuela

Posted over 2 years ago
Carl Cox was djing to 7000 people in Caracas, Venezuela on Saturday night when gunshots erupted in the crowd. Four people in the crowd were shot dead in what is thought to be a gang-related incident. Cox was headlining an event called Red Noise at La Rinconada on Saturday, November 3rd. He was allegedly 10 minutes into his set when the violence occurred. According to NME:
Cox released a statement, which reads: "I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of this Saturday. My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in this horrific act. I am informed that it was gang-related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun."
Here is video where you can hear the gunshots and the reaction in the crowd, but the camera stays focused on the dj. Cox must not have been able to hear over the music, or thought it was firecrackers (not unusual at a rave). The video goes on to show the wounded and the chaos that ensued.I'm adding Venezuela to my list of places you could get shot just for being in the way. Other locales on the list include Johannesburg and Sao Paulo. Oakland should be on the list too, but I love it too much to stay away...As you can see/hear from the video, Carl Cox is a house/Detroit techno DJ. He was quite big in the late 90's, kinda like Paul Oakenfold, though I've never heard of Cox releasing any music of his own.

  1. Marco1019 says This is such sad news. Carl Cox is among the world's most popular DJs. He was born in Barbados but raised in the UK. He's released several mix compilations along with a studio produced album, *Phuture 2000*, featuring the hit _The Latin Theme_. I saw Carl Cox spin several years ago in NYC when he opened for Underworld. It was only a 2 hour set but he had the entire crowd moving with a good mix of house music.
