Lawsuit Blames Record Labels And PR For Busta Rhymes' Violent Ways

Posted over 4 years ago
According to various sources, a lawsuit has been filed against Busta Rhymes by the man he allegedly assaulted in NYC last summer. The incident took place in the Chelsea neighborhood after Busta Rhymes performed at the AmsterJam Music Fest on Randall's Island. Supposedly, the man spit on the rapper's car (or on the street near the car depending on who is telling the story) and consequently was attacked by Rhymes and his throng of bodyguards. Rhymes' lawyer said that he has not been informed about the lawsuit, so there is no verification that it has been served yet. However, MTV news and VH1 news are reporting that the lawsuit is not attacking Busta Ryhmes alone. They report that the suit is seeking compensation from the rapper, his 9 bodyguards, as well as Interscope Geffen A&M, Universal Music Group Recordings, and Aftermath Entertainment, citing that the entire conglomerate that promote Busta Rhymes and profit from his music are responsible for his violent persona. In other words, a big ruff and tuff rapper kingpin sells more records than a chill, laissez-faire MC and thus encourage and promote Busta Rhyme's violent ways. Whereas the individual behind the persona, Trevor Smith, may be a perfectly calm and reasonable person when he's not wearing the Busta Rhymes mask. What I don't understand is why anyone would mess with ^ this ^ guy. He has a long history of assault charges and he doesn't look even slightly friendly, especially when hanging with 9 equally vicious looking bodyguards...

It's an interesting story that brings to head the discussions about how the record labels and music industry are the ones promoting and rewarding violent lyrics and the lifestyle that goes with it. There are so many different rappers and musicians out there, doing their thing. It's no accident that the ones who get the most radio play and most albums sold are not the ones with a positive message which supports uplifting the community.Read more about it from these different angles:VH1 newsyahoo newsBusta Rhymes' musical and criminal history is outlined on his wiki page

  1. The Serenity Vortex says Fuck yeah. I agree with every word dude. I hate violent rap and I would like to add something else to the melting pot. I despise the whole R & B "Look at my bling and listen to me sing about me me me me me!!". They have a lot to answer for. But I do also wonder if it is just a sad reflection of our society. Is it a product of; or a contribution too; the way society is?
