On 7/6/07 I posted a song that was a b-side from the NP's upcoming album. As a result I received a nasty-gram from websheriff. You can read more about it here- www.diplognat.comToday I received an email from Fred von Lohmann of Electronic Frontier Foundation that was very nice and supportive. He posted more on his blog here- http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/005352.phpI wanted to thank you all for your posts. The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth for both the NP's and for Matador. I will still go to their show, and will still listen to their music. Just not with the same fervor.JJ

tybees says Fred put that very well, and made the point much better than I could have. I hope that the NP's really do have no idea how the situation was handled by websherrif. While the 'riff did have a seemingly sympathetic tone and his comment(s) were of friendly disposition (more than likely it was composed well before your post was made), a public threat of legal action for streaming a song is not fair and is certainly embarassing to the poster. btw, websherrif, I recorded the song through my streaming capture device and put it on limewire. Just kidding :) And I still absolutely and completely love you, NP's.

caliscrnwrtr says wow. this whole sitch is fucking crazy. now i'm actually kinda worried about what might happen if the riaa finds my 1000s of illegally downloaded songs (though, i must add, everything i downloaded, i did later purchase legally). and to have your fave band (or at least their enforcers) call you out like that. man, i don't know what i'd do if death cab or nine inch nails threatened to sue me. shame on them for shitting on their fans and go team you for your awesome response to the sherrif.
