While I thoroughly enjoyed the New Pornographers this last weekend, I had a much more enjoyable time at the LCD Soundsystem/Arcade Fire show at Red Rocks. Red Rocks is always a good venue, but this one was really special.

LCD started the show. I've always enjoyed them and have their most recent album, but they are so much better live. They have a raw, energetic power that just doesn't translate as well on a polished studio effort. I'm nearly 40 now and have been to hundreds of shows and LCD was by far one of the best.

Arcade Fire was superb as well, but I didn't enjoy them as much as LCD and I thought it would be the reverse. Arcade had great energy and were thoroughly humbled to be there. I've never seen a band more appreciative of their audience.

After seeing these bands, as well as the New Pornographers, I can't help but wonder if we're going through a 'Canadian Invasion' in music right now. Everytime I find a new band I like, they turn out to be Canadian.

I saw the NP's on Monday and I have to say that it was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I knew Neko was scheduled to be there, but was surprised when Dan Bejar was there as well. I've read many times that he rarely plays with them. He came to Boulder and will come to Denver in November, so I'm contemplating going again.

They played mostly stuff from their last two albums, with maybe six songs from their first two. They were tight and rockin'.

I bet some bald-headed dude that they would open with 'All of the Things That Go To Make Heaven and Earth'. He bet it would be 'All The Old Showstoppers'. I won, but I never saw him to collect my beer. So if he's reading this, you owe me baldy!

Behar did seem quite drunk. It was hard to tell. I tend to watch most shows from the back. I need the space to dance.

Just a quick news update.

NPR will be airing the interview @ 8:40 Pacific and Central and 9:40 Eastern and Mountain. If you miss it, they will have a podcast of Weekend addition available on their website.

Now for other news...

I am going to LA this weekend and have decided to see Lee Scratch Perry at the House of Blues. I have heard his stuff, but do not own any, so I'm looking forward to a new musical adventure. I might also hit a jazz club on Sunday night. I let you all know how the show went.
