The Art of Dialog

Posted about 4 years ago

Like much of Crispell's best work,Overlapping hands is a concert performance, and a duo at that.

There are moments when it might almost be one person playing,so close is the understanding between the two women, but for the fact that they do sound very different.

Schweizer's sound is sharper and more Europeanized.

Crispell's draws deeper on an American tradition and constantly refers to tonal centres that her collaborator wants to push away to the very boundaries of the music.

The recording is near perfect, and a tremendous advance on some of FMP's more Heath Robinsonish concert efforts. the music is a joy.
