Sarah McLachlan has apparently been one of the "institutions" in the international music industry that perhaps have "institutionalized" the whole contemporary music scene. To be honest, I was a little bit confused about how I would give an introduction about her. I believe that would be something you could take something against me because she certainly doesn't need one. For a while I have been thinking whether to call her a "great music-maker" or a "talented musician with a very lovely and haunting voice" even though she's both and at the same time, something more.I was listening to her song "Mary" from her album "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (1993) a while ago and it suddenly stopped me from doing what I had been doing. Her voice is so beautiful. The song is certainly soulful. Personally, provided that I am very much attached with my religion (Roman Catholicism), I first thought that "Mary" was about Virgin Mary... No, really. Nevertheless, I still don't know what she really meant (in totality) about that song of hers. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to find out. But till now, the song will remain a mystery to me. Actually, I thought her whole "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" album radiates a certain atmosphere of mysteriousness. And I think, that certain mystery, as well as the intensity of her theme, have altogether been the key element that has made her whole album, much especially her song "Mary," undeniably beautiful.
