Nothin' For A Broken Heart - (featuring Rodney Crowell)
I have very mixed feelings, more negative than positive, about mainstream country music. At its worst (which is a LOT of the time) it sounds like music for morons. I played in a country band in the Midwest for years and, although it's fun to play (what music isn't?) it's often a very disappointing listen. But you can't throw away an entire genre. I was first exposed to Vince Gill as I was channel surfing. There was some Christmas special on (NOT a temptation) but Vince was singing, and I was absolutely mesmerized by his voice. It is an absolutely beautiful instrument.Vince is a triple threat: Vocalist, excellent guitarist and songwriter. He was the lead singer for two or three later albums by Pure Prarie League and ended up marrying the Christian/Pop singer Amy Grant. His earlier CDs are particularly dicey, as too often he was doing Nashville formula stuff. But none of the CDs are without standout tracks, and he has been getting better and better as the years go by. He just released a FOUR CD box, all new, called These Days, and this is one of my favorite tracks from that:Finally, from his next-to-last CD, Next Big Thing, here's an amusing video with him doing the title track.

This guy reminded me of Jason & the Scorchers... which is a good thing indeed.
Country music with a good dose of rock n roll.

I'm with you on the whole mainstream country being undesireable. But I also agree that I am unable to shun a whole genre, for the most part. I'll check this guy out. Thanks!
