The Zombies greatest single? Side B

Posted over 2 years ago
This is the "B" side to what may be the Zombies greatest single, released in the summer of 1965.Not sure why it wasn't a hit? Well, there IS no good reason, because it was re-recorded by some group called The People, who were a one-hit wonder - with an inferior version of THIS SONG!

  1. Spike says So many great recordings not properly appreciated at the time. Even the acts themselves often don't understand which of their pieces are good and which are bad. Time does, though.

I've wondered the exact same thing. It must have been simply bad timing when the single was released considering that The People's version garnered airplay and sales.

  4. dermahrk says That, or perhaps a total lack of promotion on the part of Parrot (a subsidiary of London Records, I think). And, other than the early Stones, who did London ever have success with and promote? I'm drawing a blank...

Wasn't Tom Jones on Parrot? That may have been their main focus like Tommy Mottola pushing all of Sony's energy on Mariah Carey.

  6. Augusts1 says Great song, so what was the A side hit? So many songs that don't get the proper attention they truly deserve.

  7. ivylander says London also was the marketing juggernaut behind the Nashville Teens' "Tobacco Road" and the Moody Blues' "Go Now!" Parrot was Them's original label, too, I believe....

  8. dermahrk says No, I never heard that one. Assume it was not the hit that "Go Now" was.

  9. dermahrk says Ah, the only Moody Blues song I liked (and still own). Nice to see the return of the "Casper's Pal With Bloody Paintbrushes" avatar, Ivylander! A tribute to homicidal after-life home decorating if ever there was.....

  10. ivylander says Except that the blood does not belong to him..... Do you remember the Moody Blues' follow-up single? It was called "Stop," it was (I believe) a Denny Laine song, and it was actually superior to "Go Now!" in certain respects. It was also perhaps the only follow-up single in the history of pop that utterly contradicted the message of the first single.
