SUTC - another interesting Beatles White Album cover
-
Artist:

I won't pretend that Sarabeth Tucek's cover version of "Good Night" on the MOJO White Album "free" CD is ab fab. Her voice is not totally to my taste and she talks a bit at the end - this ALWAYS annoys me, which may give a hint towards my feelings about rap. But it is very listenable and, more importantly, its spartan arrangement highlights the beauty of Lennon's song. I always found it very hard to appreciate. Lennon apparently felt it was too corny for him to sing on, so it was given to Ringo and was the only example of horrible production choices by George Martin (I assume he's to blame) for a schmaltzy over-orchestrated arrangement. So while I think a better version of the song COULD be done (anyone know of one?) this version has finally brought me around to loving this tender lullaby.

If you play it backwards, though, does it reveal any secret message "proving" that Paul McCartney is dead?
I like this much more than......
i had forgotten all about this tune. very nice
I like this Dermahrk!
Nice dreamy version. I thought she'd be talking out a story at the end so it wasn't too bad with just the couple of bars.
Have you heard any more of her stuff?
Nope. Though I saw on her MySpace account, where I glommed her pic from, that she's a UK artist with one CD out.
got this exact cd and was so excited when I listened to it. Uncut put out a similar cover cd of all beatles tunes, those were equally as great. I always love to hear how other artists take on a band as huge as the beatles
Highights a lovely song. The speaking bit at the end is also on the Beatles version, though Ringo's voice is far more jaring than hers.
Aside from the background noise (analog recording?) I very much like this performance. Thanks.
Its good. I like the atmospherics
Tucek does a good job. dermahrk, I like what you wrote about it, and the comments are trenchant. I wonder if she had heard Joanie Bartels' 1985 version. Bartels and arranger Ken Collins had their names buried in fine print near the end of the cassette's inner liner notes. Our kids aged 22 and 17 have no memory of their countless listenings of this.
Posts have a natural "shelf life" of a couple of days, after which additional comments are usually never made. I'm always impressed when you dig deep and make a comment on something much later (3 months in this case). Thanks.
I think I was out of town when you posted it, but when I noticed it today, I had to comment. Certain posts are irresistable.
