Jellyfish and The Zombies - a couple of a capella box set gems

Jellyfish was a power pop wonder, whose influence still rings through the genre today. Not Lame put out a 4-CD Jellyfish box set a few years ago - quite the endeavor for a group who only released 2 CDs before they broke up.
The opening track of their CD "Spilt Milk" was a mostly a capella number called "Hush" which, for some reason, they kind of mucked up with silence, sound effects and god-knows what else. I much prefer the demo version which is very straightforward and is included here. Think the Beach Boys and you'll be pretty close.
The second track, to be included in Comments is from The Zombies' box set of Zombie Heaven, an a capella radio jingle for a UK DJ named Kenny Evertt, arranged by former choirboy Rod Argent.
Both tracks are well under 2 minutes.

Annnnd, here's The
Zombies' Kenny Everett Jingle
Two of the finest boxed sets released! Just played The Zombies an hour ago. Were you evesdropping?
:=)
These bands both hit my sweet spot, and always have. (I should also note my affection for the animated-cartoon themes cranked out by Andy Sturmer after the dissolution of Jellyfish - and will do so at greater length in a post on my own page.)
Mike, please do so ASAP. I knew that Sturmer went into TV music but never heard any of his output. I would love to!
Time - no eavesdropping. The Zombies and other permutations of the band are a part of my daily life. Thank God for shuffle play!
dermahrk: There will be something posted shortly, straight from the Knife's archives.
Both are great bands and its interesting to see they have four cd's from a band that only released two. Might have to find this one to listen to
There are advantages to not buying something, in that the eventual box set ends up being the way to go. Jellyfish initiate, yes! Zombies owner, oh no!
I have absolutely no idea why there are two MOG players under my previous comment. You gotta love the serendipity of blogging.
The 'comment' box eventually opened after a couple of tries
This brought a smile to my face cheers derm x
"Thank you Ken...and thank you Ken again" Heh, heh. Was expecting some manic power pop but got a laugh instead. :)
I love the Spilt Milk version - but for me - there really isn't a song of theirs I don't adore !!! I always meant to get the box set... have both the albums - seems only right I get the box set to go with them ;)
Glad to hear it, Lizzie. What's even more amazing is that their two albums are NOT part of the box set. Sure, the songs are there - in demo form, live, and alternate versions - but not the originals released.
Unfortunately, I understand that the box set is long out of print and going for mucho dinero these days. Not that I'd part with mine....
you are absolutely right... can't afford it. guess I will have to hope & pray that someone who does have it might get a copy out to me :)
"Tell Her No" and "Time of the Season" are timeless classics which I will always love.-----Also "She's not there"---which I guess were their only big hits, but what wonderful songs!
not heard that beach....sorry jellyfish track before but loved it
