The Rembrandts, new masters: Great Buildings cover Neil Diamond – and another unreleased track!

Posted about 1 year ago

(Seventh in a series - for a segment list with links, click on dermahrk at left)

Before the Rembrandts, the duo came together in Great Buildings, who released one album (see segment #4). Although some tracks for a second album were recorded, that second album never came to fruition. Recently, the excellent new Rembrandts website therembrandts.net has been putting up some unreleased mp3s, including this cover of Neil Diamond's early 60s hit single "Cherry Cherry". I think most rock fans prefer Neil's early hits to some of the schlock that followed, and this is one of the good ones. Great Buildings do a great job with it.

If this post seems a bit familiar, it's because I re-created it after MOG ate the original post (and of course your comments) a few weeks ago when MOG went to hell in a handbasket. I do have something NEW to offer, however (if I can get it to embed) - another pretty great track from that unreleased album, In Dreams, which I will try to include in comments. If it doesn't work, somebody send me some code to embed either the old or new player. I'm struggling here! Can't get the links below to work right, either. Arrrgh! I finally learn the arcane secrets of MOG and then everything changes!

I've tried the tricks I figured out, basically the old style mog box and the red button embed, without luck with this string.  I've come to the conclusion that sometimes you just got to try upload the mp3 again as sometime the string (the 11 character string) you get just doesn't work right.  Also, note you need to get rid of word "embed" and put a < in front of and a > after the code to make it work (people leave these off so when sharing the codes they don't come through as final product).  Also, string needs to be same in two places in code.  Below is the code, minus < and > I use for old style MOG boxes, which is what I've had the best luck with with putting Mp3's into comments.  The 11 character string goes in the two spots I've filled with Capital X's, be carefull to not add any spaces in process of cutting and pasting - I've also found sometimes puting a

in front of the whole thing and a

after helps sometimes.  Also, when embeding codes use the HTML button on the edit bar above.  Nothing seems to work consistently for me.  it's all kind of a crap shoot.  As for creating links, highlight where you want the link after you've written it in, then click on the little "chain icon" and box comes up to paste URL into to create link - this generally does work fairly well for me.  Here's MOG Box code I use sans < and >

     div class="embedded" align="center" style="background:#000000; width:320; height:141"><embed class="MOGPlayer" wmode="transparent" style="height:122px;width:320px;" src="http://mog.com/player.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="320" height="122" name="MOGPlayerXXXXXXXXXXX.mp3" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="info=http://mog.com/l/XXXXXXXXXXX.mp3"/

Yeah, things have gone to hell in a hand-basket around here - Things work then don't then... then...  Think you're getting it and then all glitchy again.  Do notice, I seem to have better luck uploading and posting at slow traffic times.  Anyway, try re-uploading the file to get a new 11 character string (yeah, I know this piles more stuff on the MOG servers, but hey you do what you gotta do) and try it again.

I tried posting some boxes in this comment using strings of mine and they work (at least in previews) and then using the string for your song (evkG2rq8zw4) and got same kind of result you’re getting.  So think that might support the need to re-upload and create a new string.

Might I ask a couple of questions?

Do I definitely DROP the tildes (~) from each side of the string before insertion into the text?

Do I just drop the code into the BODY of the comment, or use one of the buttons above? If so, which one? The HTML button? The Film strip (and if so, Flash, Quicktime, etc. etc..are ANY of these correct?)  There are a couple of greyed-out buttons that I can't read.

Yes drop the ~'s and just paste in the 11 character string into where I put the capital X's.  then in comment box use HTML button to open up HTML version of your comment and drop it into page that opens up - then hit insert to update your comment draft.  The grayed out button are for making links with and you have to have something highlighted to set, or remove a link from for them to show up.
