WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Drinking, pistols and Big Joe Turner

Posted about 1 year ago
"??If you see me sleeping, baby, Please don't think I'm drunk.I got one eye on my pistolAnd the other one on my trunk.??" - Thus begins ??Wine-O-Baby Boogie??, with a kind of 30s-gangsta attitude, from *Big Joe Turner* - taken from the Proper box set ??Shout, Rattle & Roll?? (we can no longer rely on album tags to say what we input).Another jump blues tune from one of the masters.

  1. ivylander says He really is the gold standard for jump blues, isn't he? (Louis Jordan being in a category by himself....)

  2. Spike says I remember seeing him play at a small club in San Francisco in the early or mid-Seventies with local ex-Paul Butterfield and Electric Flag guys backing him up. Later I read that he had had to tour because the Atlantic record label had cheated him (and their other r&B artists) out of royalties.

  3. waydutch says This really is some fun music. 30s-gangsta certainly is much better that current gangsta.

  4. Sturgell says drinking and pistols go really well together, I imagine.
