Having just entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two weeks after the death of lead singer Mike Smith, this fabulous little tune by the DC5 came on the iPod this week and carried me back. I wondered ??why hasn't anyone posted any DC5 music on MOG??? Then it hit me. Other than a best of double-CD released 15 years ago, there has been NO Dave Clark Five product available since the death of vinyl (please, no comments about how it's ??back??). I was lucky enough to have picked up that Best Of shortly after release, which now sells for $100-125, used. But - 28 tracks were just released on iTunes and are available there. Besides Mike's gritty vocals, this track also gives an upfront treatment to his keyboards, that cheesy little Farfisa sound front and center (where egomaniac - see above shot - Dave Clark's drums usually are). Hey, drummers out there...(if you can read)..is Dave Clark's drumming any good at all? It never impressed me, but I'm no skin-beater. As many know, Clark owns the masters to their recordings and is apparently waiting for some gold mine before the original LPs are released on CD. Dave, the time is *now*...actually, the time was about 25 years ago, before half your fans preceded Mike Smith to the great beyond.

Yeah...unsure why Dave Clark has been holding out all these years for the bigger paycheck. Don't know how many copies Hollywood Records put out of that compilation but it is unbelievable how many calls we get at the radio station asking if it would be possible to get a copy. Naturally the number of calls increased after Mike Smith's passing and now that VH-1 Classic has aired the Hall Of Fame this week - we've been averaging about five calls a day. It may sound like a low number but when you consider that we were averaging that many calls a month for the last fifteen years or so...that says something. That's just people taking the time to call a radio station...how many others are out there are searching? As you stated...how many of those around when the charts were filled DC5 will still be alive when Dave Clark finally releases the material? iTunes appears to be a step in the right direction - assuming those Baby Boomers who were in their teens in the mid sixties are flocking to iTunes for the Dave Clark Five. Not to be morbid...but Dave Clark may pass away before a deal is struck.
