My favorite off of the new McCartney

While I like a lot of Paul's new CD, I must admit that this song is my fave. The first time I heard I thought : "Whoa, his voice is really going", as it sounded weak and strained. Yet, the more I heard it the more I grew to love that vocal, because it seemed to encompass fragility. It may well be the most emotional-sounding Macca vocal ever. But besides that, I think the melody is stellar, the instrumentation perfect and, who knows? - it might even be about that *"one-legged bitch":http://mog.com/dermahrk/blog_post/50192*

    Spike says Imogenery, I hope your comment doesn't mean that you like EVERY song he's written. Even God isn't perfect all the time. On the other hand (she wore a glove), "You Tell Me" sounds perfect. dermahrk, your review describes my response perfectly.

    bryan-j says Don't like that 1,2,3 opening - then I thought it was Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". (Must post that soon) I wanted to say it proves that age is no barrier to talent, which it isn't, but this isn't about age. It's pretty bland, I'm sorry to say. I wanted to like it as he's such a working class hero - unless you are a living ex-wife.

    scotfree says just curios, does the recording sound like what you've posted? the production is way weird. that hissing (electronic?)percussion seems way out of place. and the acoustic guitar is so (over) compressed. that said, the emotion still shines through, just think it should have been done straight up

    uncle creepy says good listen to my ear on 1st play, yeah yeah Mr. DJ. I confess I'd never heard give liquor back to the licorice until the other nite, so I'm no Macca expert. Liked em both. Interesting in any case to finally hear a world weary Paulie lay down all the perky puffery some may find in his public persona.. We knew he was a mensch from the gatefold of his 1st post-Beatles lp. But this! Presume you've cringed to the new Ringo single... "Liverpool We Were From" or what... it's Ringo's new guitarist who's taking up the cause of Dolly! (baaaad joke, sorry!)

I own the new Ringo and "Liverpool 8", though it has some interesting lyrical content, is one of the low points on the CD, musically. Uninteresting melody & changes. Why pick that as the single? I think any track with a heavy Beatles reference automatically gets picked as the single. But the rest of the CD is pretty stellar. I will probably post a track or two. That new avatar - Ringo as the Breck girl from the back of one of the mid-60s MAD magazine, yes? Brings back memories...

    uncle creepy says Dolly - clone - sheep - baaa - baaaad! Yeah, "Liverpool 8" must have been picked as the single for the Beatles reference. Better Ringo was to had on the Weight of The World lp of several years back, with catchy tunes like "Runaway" and "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go"...
