Thank all of you

Thank all of you that commented and sent e-mails about my loss of Dudley. This really does seem like a community of friends, and all your kind words and your dog stories brought me immense comfort. I bought a footlocker, which served as his coffin, and buried him today. In honor of all of our hours in front of our fireplace, I had this song playing at the gravesite after we lowered him down.Life goes on. Our little female bulldog, Brigid, was always trying to compete with Dudley for that number one spot, and always losing. Dudley was as possessive of me as I was of him - a little jealous when anyone else got near. Now she is being very solicitous and affectionate and that helps too. Again, thank you all. I keep thinking of one of my favorite George Carlin quotes (a dog lover himself): "Life is a series of dogs".

  1. ivylander says Lovely song. You did right by him, as you always have. I can't imagine more horribly appropriate weather....

  2. Spike says That great song makes a good coda to the Dudley era. It's now Brigid's turn to be number one.

  5. vannatta says Not that anyone will replace Dudley - all dogs are unique - but all are naturally willing to earn that top spot in the pack ... go Brigid! :)

  6. FastRMacR says Indeed DM. I think they know us better than we know ourselves ... dogs that is. ;-) Nice ... nice Redbone tune. Kansa has taken life into a Cleveland pear tree in our precious yard - we all take shade. Whenever I hear Alison Krauss ... yeah ... tear like a babe because of that/these beasts that make our lives life (dunno why..yes I do).

  13. Gwenevere says I logged on not too long ago and saw that you recently experienced the loss of a good friend. I am so sorry for your sorrows and I know that Dudley must have been a grand part of your life as I listened to the track that you had played for him. IT is wonderful to know though that life continues and you still have the support of your friends, especially Brigid. As an individual who also highly values the companionship of a good dog my heart goes out to you.
