Covered on a Wednesday: Disarm covered by Amie Miriello

Speaking of songs we loved back in the 90's, here's Amie Mirriello from Dirtie Blonde covering Smashing Pumpkin's Disarm. I love how this track starts off as a acoustic jam then ramps it up with the violins then the drums. Good stuff.

I've have this track kicking around my "to post" pile for a while, I just kept forgetting about it.

This is very nice.  I knew there was a good song in that lyric.  Odd, isn't it,  how a good cover can provide access to an opaque song? I cannot articulate why this version appeals more to me than the original.  To say that Corgan's voice is an inferior instrument just doesn't quite get it.  I think it was more in that Ms Miriello imbues the lyric with the bathos that Corgan displaced with his anger.  But that's just me.

I have a few cover songs that I prefer over the original, and though I think I like both versions of this song equally I can see what you're saying about MsMirriello's voice. She brings a kind of frailty Corgan wouldn't be able to pull off.

Although I'm not crazy about her voice, the song sounds lovely with female vocals.

DEMO -> bad tune, REALLY digging this -> She has a Stevie Nicks quality to her voice, maybe the shaky thing going on -> that ain't bad though...Imagine a Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Niks acoustic jam of this tune...HMM, I'll have to contace their agent and get them to do a cover of 1979 as well ->

yes, what a nice way to revisit a good tune. almost country-tinged, I had to look up "bathos" to make sure I wasn't getting in hot water with the Deadman, and I'm glad I did. The "exceptional comenplaceness" that is unveiled in this cover sheds a little light on Corgan's inaccesability to me, and pushes some (minute) understanding of what Billy masks with all that anger. I walk away from this post liking what he does a bit more and eager to find some things missed. thanks!!

Joe - If you would like to hear a cover of 1979 with female vocals, you can check out Lismore. Rei posted about it here, and you can download their tracks on FreeIndie. It doesn't have the same vocal quality, but it's still an interesting re-interpretation.
