La Misma Luna

Artist:
I love movies. Possibly even more than I love music. But what I love most is when a movie uses good music, especially when it is part of the plot. So get used to it now, because I'm sure I'll MOG a lot about movie music.
This post is about Under the Same Moon, a sweet, funny, dramatic film about a mexican boy on a journey to reunite with his mother in LA. I really like the music in this film. Here's a few examples.
This is Los Tigres Del Norte with "Por Amor". I like this music video/clip from the movie, especially because it shows the great relationship between Carlos (the boy) and Enrique. so funny!
And here's another movie clip with a song called "Superman es Ilegal" by Kinky
Translated lyrics
Spoken:
It's a bird.
It's a plane.
No, it's a wetback.
Sung:
1. He arrived by air, but not in an airplane
He came in his ship all the way from Krypton
and it appears that he is not an American.
Rather, he is just like me, undocumented.
2. So you see, Border Patrol, he shouldn't work
because even though it hurts, Superman is an illegal alien.
He's a journalist, well so am I
and he didn't go into the Army, oh what a deal.
3. And he is blonde, blue-eyed, and well-built
and I'm dark, chubby, and very short.
But at least I have already marched (in the military)
with the smuggler I had to pay when I crossed (the border).
4. He didn't comply with military service,
he doesn't pay taxes and he acts like a judge.
He doesn't have a green card nor a license to fly,
and I bet he doesn't even have a social security card.
5. We have to deport Superman from this region
and if possible return him to Krypton.
Where are the immigration authorities when you need them?
What's new, Mr. Racism, in the nation?

Wow. That really does sound touching.
You know, I think every Mexican citizen should come to America, whether they are reuniting with a mother, a father, a third cousin, a poker buddy - whatever. It would all be touching beyond words. I wish to add my voice to the powerful chorus already chorusing away: America is clearly where all Mexicans belong.
"America is clearly where all Mexicans belong. "
Interesting concept. I'm not arguing with you but Why do you think that way.
All?!?
Maybe Mexico should become our 51st state, and then they'd already be here.
I'm thinking it's a sarcastic drunk comment, and one that completely ignored the point of the post. but maybe I'm wrong.
I didn't really write this post to make any sort of political statement about immigraton. Anyway, the movie is more about determination and the relationship between a mother and son.
True deg I was just at her Brand New page and she said she was out getting wasted. nothing better than mogging while drunk or drogging as we call it. We all do it at some point.
By the way I'm a ginormous movie buff as well.
yea dachmo, I read that post about getting wasted. drogging is a perfect term, love it!
and yay, another movie buff! We should share recommendations, I'm always looking for new ideas of what to rent.
I just saw In Bruges last night and really liked it, a little predictable but overall worth the time.
Sarcastic, yes. Drunk, no.
I live in a city where the waves of illegal immigration make it hard for me to find one instance of it puppy-dog cute. There is, actually, a negative impact to absorbing so many illegals within our borders. It's not an us vs. them situation, so please don't accuse me of being racist (and drunk). It's detrimental to all.
dachmo - I started watching In Bruges, but I got bored and didn't finish it! haha, maybe I should try again when I'm in a more receptive mood. It definitely looked good from the previews
stocking cinder - I totally get your viewpoint, and I never accused you of being racist. and I'm not really in the mood to get into a debate of any sorts right now. I just wanted to share some music from a movie that I enjoyed, even if you wouldn't enjoy it.
So, does anyone have a non-immigration related comment?
I was just responding that way because of the post you just left :
"I was two fisted drinking till 2 hours ago It didn't make it hurt any less, and for the first time in my life a friend stopped me"
What am I supposed to think after reading this. I'm glad you're sober there's nothing wrong with being drunk we at mog actually prefer it that way. :)
Where are you from?
Sorry deg, sometimes post don't always end up the way they were intended.
Bored with the movie Huh?
give me a top ten list so I get a feel for what your tastes are like, if that's not too personal!
deg, I know you did not call me racist. I was just making a preemptive strike against anyone's assumption that my comments indicated some sort of racial beef.
My first post was a test. I hoped only to successfully upload a photo and an mp3. Both worked. The text was the first arbitrary, interesting thing I came across that I could copy and paste. I did indicate that it was a test post; sorry it was taken seriously. I'll be more careful next time.
hmm, it would be hard to come up with a top 10 since it changes a lot with my mood. To give you an idea, I like: 80's movies (espcecially anything with molly ringwald or john cusak), chick flicks (my guilty pleasures), foreign films (lately: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Pan's Labyrinth, Cache), musicals, and i like to try pretty much anything odd or unusual (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Lars and the Real Girl). I also really liked Little Miss Sunchine and Juno, big surprise there.
I don't tend to watch much action or horror, unless it has an interesting plot hook. I like more pyschological movies.
do you have a top 10?
ooh I see Cinder, sorry for the confusion.
Top tens are hard to do in any catagory, "Lawrence of Arabia" is my favourite though, that much I can say.
You say you like '80s movies and movies with great soundtracks? have you seen "Valley Girl":http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086525/?
i haven't seen it, but I will! Looks like a fun movie, thanks for the suggestion. :)
Valley Girl is totally killer! :) Great recommendation, dachmo!
It's like watching Clueless but their "likes" and valley talk sounds ten times more forced.
