so I recently told the story of how Ingrid Michaelson broke my heart in January by dropping out of a concert I had tickets to. However, something fabulous came out of that concert, and that was Matt Nathanson. I had never really heard of him, but I decided to go anyway. SO glad that I did, because I instantly fell in love. The truth is, his album is good, but a bit forgettable. He is definitely the perfect example of an artist that thrives at live performance. He has such a stage presence and charisma that everyone in the audience was instantly hooked (especially every girl - too bad he is married!) So a few weeks ago I found out about this opportunity to see him live again, and I was thrilled. He played a show in Vegas that was broadcast live online. and even better, the show was interactive! The audience could vote on the set list and send "shout outs" to the band that they could see and respond to (so funny and dirty!). apparently you can also change which camera you watch, but I completely missed this feature! didnt even see this option :( Here is a clip from the show of "Come on Get Higher" which is basically a musical orgasm (especially around minute 3). hehe, love it. but it is also a hilarious example of the interaction that the venue provided (both before and during the song- he totally was distracted by something dirty!!):Once again, Matt put on a really great performance. His music is fantastic live and you can just feel the energy he puts into it. So does this interactive concert venue stand up to the real thing? yes and no. It is certainly better than a non-interactive broadcast, but it can't possibly be the same as in person. Also, it seemed to me that Matt was rushing to fit in a lot of songs into the time allowed (which is great!) but this limited the time he had for interacting and telling stories, which is a shame because is was absolutely hilarious in person. but overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The site is "Deeprockdrive.com":http://deeprockdrive.com and I suggest you check it out, because they have a few more free concerts this summer. EDIT: I just remembered another difference: There was a severe lack of hip swiveling last night! :( I was sad. Just for fun, here's another video. This is "Bulletproof Weeks". such a sad and beautiful song. if you watch the whole thing you can hear the shout out to me (well, to State College, which is basically me) :)
Me and Matt in State College (I almost didn't post this picture because I look so bad in it, but he is just so cute that I had to :) )
