Quick, without thinking too hard; without Googling, checking any sources, or looking at your neighbor's paper, complete this line:
And the boys from the casino dance with their shirts open
Like Latin lovers on the shore
Chasin' all _____________.
Write down your answer, and read on.
(pause)
OK. Obviously (and for good reason) this song has been on our minds of late, and last night I was listening to a live version, on which the line is different from the one on The Wild, The Innocent. (Did you all notice this before? I'm so lame.) I've known this song for 35 years, and I can hear only one version in my head, so I was surprised to hear a variant. And I like the original better, for any number of reasons. Who has an explanation?

My Trusted MOGs
Hmm. What was the alternate lyric?
My Trusted MOGs
1. "chasin' all them silly New York virgins by the score" 2. "chasin' all them silly New York girls"
My Trusted MOGs
Um, maybe it's because he's got a daughter in high school now....
My Trusted MOGs
Nice try, dad. The second version shows up on the live 1975 cd.
My Trusted MOGs
Then I am mystified.....
My Trusted MOGs
Exactly. It doesn't scan as well, it loses the rhyme, and it's not as... evocative.
My Trusted MOGs
Maybe he just forgot the words.
My Trusted MOGs
Maybe it's 'cause their ain't no more "New York virgins by the score."
