American Pie - The Day The Music Died Feb 3, 1959

I've listened to Don McLean's American Pie at least 1000 times in the past 35 years - but never knew the story behind the lyrics. Another mogger posted that Feb 3 , 1959 was "The Day the Music Died" See the video for an interesting history lesson into our musical /political past.

    bobglaza says awwww debi - you must have started listening to this song when you were what? about 3 or 4 :) - all kidding aside - its a great tune..."wiki here.": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_day_the_music_died I grew up not far from Storm Lake Iowa and heard the story as a youth. Applause to the video! Current twist is the Big Bopper's son (or grandson) is considering exhuming the body to see if any clues can rise.

Chewy - to me it was like the Billy Joel We Didn't Start the Fire - a glimpse into history through music (must be the former teacher in me) Bob - what a charmer....wish that was true - but 2007 will be the year I turn 50 (but still feel like i'm 25) IX and da Pimp - glad you liked :)

    manysevens says I'm late ... lol ... Thought it might also interest you to know that the Roberta Flack song "Killing Me Softly With His Song" was inspired by Don singing this song. Highly recommend grabbing a Roberta Flack Greatest Hits or something like that ... smooth:)
