American Pie - The Day The Music Died Feb 3, 1959

Posted over 2 years ago
I've listened to Don McLean's American Pie at least 1000 times in the past 35 years - but never knew the story behind the lyrics. Another mogger posted that Feb 3 , 1959 was "The Day the Music Died" See the video for an interesting history lesson into our musical /political past.

  2. chewy says Very good! Thank you for posting. Interesting to see all the little tidbits of history that artists throw in their songs. A popular song that everyone knows the chorus too but no one really thinks about, not me at least.

  3. bobglaza says awwww debi - you must have started listening to this song when you were what? about 3 or 4 :) - all kidding aside - its a great tune..."wiki here.": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_day_the_music_died I grew up not far from Storm Lake Iowa and heard the story as a youth. Applause to the video! Current twist is the Big Bopper's son (or grandson) is considering exhuming the body to see if any clues can rise.

  11. manysevens says I'm late ... lol ... Thought it might also interest you to know that the Roberta Flack song "Killing Me Softly With His Song" was inspired by Don singing this song. Highly recommend grabbing a Roberta Flack Greatest Hits or something like that ... smooth:)
