Bill Withers version is amazing - but Joan's voice brings a special meaning as I wait the return of a special person in my life.

  1. Bartleby says For some reason, the passage from "she" to "he" has always felt awkward to me even though Ms Osborne does a superb job here. Thanks for sharing with us.

  2. Cody B says Joan has really grown as an artist and in my eyes over the years. I have to admit I was kinda put off by her breakthrough material, but the solo stuff and productions for folks like The Holmes Brothers over the years have won me over. I guess it wasn't necessarily growth, just perhaps doing what she wanted to all along. Then of course, there's me growing up,too.

  3. Anna says Cody, has she? The first song of hers I heard was One Of Us; it was also the last one. But I have to say she sounds great at this cover.... debi, may that return be more special than you can imagine :)

  4. Cody B says Yeah, Anna..I think after her pop success she kinda retreated to the folk/roots music scene and has done some excellent work. She produced and sings backing vox on this killer LP Another cover- The Homes Brothers- Love Train

  8. Mike the Knife says She's got a voice, all right. Always dug "Right Hand Man" from her first album. Too bad that the slightly addled "One of Us" is all some know of her. (No slight intended, dear Anna.)

  9. Jonh Ingham says I'm down with both cover versions - The Holmes Brothers is quite a revelation. Good soundtracks for the return of your loved one.
