A decade behind the times....

Wow, how did I get to 30 years old and not listen to the beastie boys? I mean yeah, I knew the singles, but I had never listened to an actual album. I am really digging these guys.

  3. Heli0tr0pe says Sorry to you, but "Paul's Boutique" is the quite simply the best rap album ever made. It's a natural fact, so deal with it.

  5. fool on da loose says Come on now 'batastrophe', you can't be that harsh on The Beasties. I don't consider myselfd a huge fan of theirs but I will opine that they certainly have made quite an indellible mark on rap/rock infusion, regardless of the fact that they are white. Remember, they didn't pop up in the mid 90's as an urban respnose to grunge. They were already at it in the early 80's, releasing Licensed to Ill in '85. To put that into perspective, that was the same year Run DMC and LL Cool J released their debut albums. Who was doing anything remotely similar to The Beasties at that point? Most people were just starting to recover from glam-metal or trying to figure out why listening to The Cure compelled them to wear so much black eye liner. I just saw The Beasties perform a free concert at the Etnies shoe factory here in Orange County and they were awesome. Still have tons of energy and don't seem ready to retire the mic just yet. Deathjoy, keep sifting through their stuff. You won't regret it!

  8. batastrophe says that girls song just really pisses me off. they don't really do anything that grabs me like goodie mob, outkast, public enemy, dead prez or common.

  9. fool on da loose says "Bat" I will say that I hate that girls song as well. In fact, pretty much the whole entire album has been played out, in my opinion, and needs to be be put on air-wave hiatus (I feel this way about most Nirvana as well, but I will try to stick to the topic at hand). They do, however, have a significant chunk of music that hasn't been pounding into the ground by intellectually/creatively paralyzed radio DJ's. Take "Eggman" for instance. Not only is it esconced in a well paced, jumpy beat, but it has a tidy little message about The Beasties stand on racism. I could jam that track over and over.
