There are songs that are guilty pleasures. Songs which don't really fit into our usual comfort zone. Guitar Man is fluff, wrapped in gauze. Lightweight and cliched, I LOVE IT!!

Okay, okay. Remember back to the early '60s, when that surprise international smash "Sukiyaki" came along, sung by the Japanese guy? That's the song.

Have you heard Cake's cover of it? It's fantastic.

I remember trying to learn another Bread song, If, on the piano. Oh, and Nadia's Theme too. Crap, now I feel like having a pop tart and some tang.

I'm proud of my guilty pleasures, and the LP _the best of bread_ is one of them. What about Air Supply, the Carpenters and their ilk? Why close yourself off from the beauty all around us? You sometimes need a break from music that feels like you're sticking your finger in a light socket.

The song is admittedly cheesy, but still has a place on my iPod, as do selected tunes from all of David Gates' solo LPs, some of which I had to buy as vinyl - not available on CD - and convert. The guy has an absolutely beautiful voice - something really special.

More cheese, please! :)
