MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(31)

The Grateful Dead went the Beatles one better. Sure, the Fabs had Apple, but the lucrative distribution rights belonged to EMI. The Dead kept the distribution rights "in the family" for this, their first record on their brand new label. It gained a certain notoriety because it seemed that there were no good clean pressings. I still have three vinyl copies of this and none of them ever sounded too good. Oh the production values of the recordings are above reproach, but I think they used recycled Archies records or something cause there were numerous flaws in the records themselves. But for my money Wake Of The Flood and Blues For Allah are the absolute best studio recording the Dead ever made. This post was inspired by this one where you can hear another high point from a cd full of them.

What, a Grateful Dead record that doesn't sound good? And you blame the pressing? Dude, stop buying additional copies and just admit it sucks.
