Surprise me anytime.

About two years ago someone left a CD on my desk. It was a home-burned copy of a Delbert McClinton. I guess I'd heard the name, somewhere or other, and I had mentaly filed him away with the cowboyhat country music that I disdain so much. Then one day I threw it in the player at work, where I couldn't really focus on the music too well, the music was just aural wallpaper. But several times during the play I realized this is no MERE country music.Upon further playbacks it became apparent that this guy has American Music, it all it's diverse glory, coursing through his veins. He can find what Ray Charles called the 'soul' of any style music and present it with a raw, unaffected honesty that is just SO right. Whether he's singing his own songs, or covering classics or contemporaries, his easy comfort and effortless mastery of so many styles is a pleasure to hear. Country, Folk, Blues, Soul, adult contemporary, Rock,RocknRoll....its all there without any jarring stylistic shifts, each track organicaly tied to the last and the next regardless. So, having said all that, I'm gonna leave you with one of his simplist little ditties (dirty trick, huh?). But this song is one of those songs that come along now and then which for some strange reason grabs me on the first listen, and just improves with each listen. In so many ways....this is my songI'm currently at a half-dozen DM cds and climbing. His remakable talents should be discovered by more MOGGERS.

  3. scotfree says Hey DMDM! I'm still hangin' round (kinda/sorta). Just got my own "first" DM cd over Thanksgiving - and I am loving it. It's a real early one I picked up on our holiday trip to Missouri called "Let the Good Times Roll" and it's packed with some of the best country blues you never but shoulda heard on the radio way back when. I'll be adding more of this stuff fer sure!! Peace
