If Its Sunday...Somebody Must Be Doing A Version Of Somebody Else's Song...(Sunday Under Covers)

Posted 8 months ago

Some bands/artists are easy to cover....their songs, for whatever reason, lend themselves to various interpretations with ease. (even if some of the interpretations are.......... .......clueless.)

............And i have gone on record on more than one occasion 'round here....i hold most "Tribute cd's" in great disdain. The mix of has-beens, wanna-be's, token "stars", and hacks has been done to death and damn few of them are worth owning. (I own a million of 'em, so I should know).

........Ah...but occasionaly a cover comes along that opens up a song for us that had been previoulsy inaccessible... ......and sometimes a cover is just barely a cover.....

A good song is a good song is a good song.  Except in every karaoke bar in America.

I could do without the first one, but the others, I agree. Dolly put more feeling into it than Mary did.

I have said the same myriad times

"Except in every karaoke bar in America."

.......never thought of it...but its such a profound truth

    @Dave...Yes  Joe Cocker

    Rex....more feeling & a better, less shmaltzy.  Or...at least...more organic....(Accoustic shmaltz?)

wow.....Jim's Big Ego covering a song my friend Danni sang with a killer band at a party last night.  what a find!

oh, right.  she was already doing a cover.  i forgot.  SUTC squared.

maybe this video will reinforce your beliefs Madeline.  do not bother watching it unless you're home with a hangover, it's snowing out, or something else is glueing you to your computer.

glueing or gluing?  probably more fun looking that up.

Dolly does put a lot of sincere-sounding emotion into it.  I like it!  You're right about tribute albums.

Well, I like that version of Feelin Groovy by Jim's Big Ego!  I thought the Jane Morgan cover of Sounds of Silence was atrocious.

I'd like to hear more from Jim's Big Ego....

Thanks Jeff, those were perfect pick me ups for the mid-work slump!

These guys are fun!  They remind me somewhat of They Might Be Giants - or cross TMBG with the band Cake and it's close.

Jumblies I plan to come back and listen more closely to later (a coworker or 2 have walked by and seen me with my ear practically on the speaker--later I can turn it up more).  I'm feeling a bit sorry for those Jumblies I think.....but hey they might be smug.  I'll be back!
