JUST BECAUSE CAPNDAD LEFT THEM OFF THE LIST>>>>THE BAND
-
Artist:
Capndad posted a nifty little piece today and you'll notice two things: that The Band didn't make his list...and MusicRX asked how we could forget The Guess Who. (MusicRX is right too...try as I might I can't forget them.)
So to make up for the slight I'm posting one of The Band's absolute finest numbers, sung here by a diverse group of Canadians, "Arcadian Driftwood".
Many are surprised when its pointed to them that the roots of Cajun & Zydeco music run to Canada. Not entirely perhaps, but mostly. If you listen to this song & know anything of the history of our neighbors to the north...just connect the dots. And if this song doesn't convince you of the Genius of Garth Hudson....well, you're crazy, that's all.

My stake in the ground re The Guess Who is that I have never liked their music. I tried when all others were groovin' to the beat of American Woman. But for me they lacked something. Or maybe it was Burton Cumming's self promoted omniscience that turned me off.
Love this song -and The Band -- the Guess Who not so much -- good CA list, but capndad don't forget my girlfriend Kathleen Edwards.
you are just so predictable- goddamn if I didn't know this was coming!! as soon as I read his post I thought "well, let's see how long before DM chirps in" and BINGO here you are :-)
I mean this as a GOOD thing by the way!
The Guess Who were one of my favorite bands, back in the day. Those who only know the top 40 stuff are missing some great music and great variety of music too. I always enjoy groups that stretch their sound and don't sound the same all the time.
These guys were that kind of group. They put Canada on the rock and roll map in the US, so you can't leave them out. To me, American Woman is one of my least favorites of theirs and the least like any of their other work. I'll have to plan a living in the past with them soon.
