Ophelia redux
-
Artist:
Robbie Robertson HAD a knack for writin' songs that just seemed to whelm up from the very soul of the American Experience. So many of his songs have that feel of old folk tales handed down from generation t' generation. The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down is maybe the best known example, but there are so many more. An' Ophelia is one of those. On first hearin' it seemed like an' ole comfortable sneaker. The original recording is sweet. The LAST WALTZ version is SMOKIN'IT rocks, it rolls, it thunders, an' Robbie is in such fine form as he rips two exquisite solos. BUT......he steps all over the horns! If ya ever get the chance, check out Ophelia from RICK DANKO, LIVE ON BREEZE HILL. What a track.....Instead of Robbie's guitar, ya get two breaks that sound as close t'dixieland as rocknroll can get. The horns are weaving in n out of each other like a bag full of wet snakes!!! The rhythm section is SOMEHOW Gently poundin' an' Rick's wounded vulnerable vocal just brings it all home. This song gets me up an' boppin' aroun' EVERY TIME>With apologies to Robbie an' the rest, RICK has recorded the definitive version, no others need apply
