LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER! SINEAD O'CONNOR
-
Artist:
I remember when Sinead O'Connor had unquestioned credibilty. I bought her first album as an import way back when. I remember reading a blurb somewhere in one of the myriad music magazines that I've since sworn off, maybe Rolling Stone. Anyway, the article made mention of the fact that this little Irish spark plug had written a strong batch of songs, and even helped in the mixes & things with a clear vision of what she wanted. The hook though (for me) was in the story's assertion that when it came time for the cover art the recorded co. wanted some T&A (teasing and assumptions). So she shaved her head & showed up for the Photo shoot in burlap & combat boots. I never looked into the story to verify it's accuracy, but I liked the story.....so I bought the album without ever hearing a track......and fell in love with it. For me it is her most fully realized, great from beginning to end album. She has certainly hit some very high peaks since, but she's never sustained the momentum as she did on that first album.
This then is a great live version of one of that albums very highest peak, "Jerusalem". As uis usually the case she imbues this with much more emotiom, bile, & anger. But she never goes over the top......great stuff.

I was just listening to an interview from a band that was so shocked when the followed Sinead at a Lallapoolsa gig, and when they got up how a sea of people had their backs to them leaving for anther band, but all there to see Sinead.. it blew thier mind! Thanks DMDM!
Agreed, classic album!
Nice one! Have always been a fan. Her voice has such an incredible range.
I think I have this record, somehwere in the deepest darkest sepths of my Itunes, hang on...
Um, yep there it is, guess I should give it a spin.
I remain a big fan of Sinead, although I was disappointed in her SF appearance at Davies Symphony Hall with poor sound. Unlike some, I think her recent stuff is great; check out her very respectful reggae album, or her album of duets, Collaboration, or (if you can find it) Ghostland, with Natachala Atlas. She has one of the best voices in current pop music, IMHO.
Haven't given her work a lot of attention- this ain't bad though.
