A TRUE THANKSGIVING STORY...........(Teach your children well)

Posted over 1 year ago

Looking back.....it all seems to have gone by so maddenly fast.......

Being the father of four has its moments. I remember the time i got a phone call from the principal of my daughter's (1st grade) school. It seems my youngest was angry & insistant that she was right & the class & her teacher were wrong.....which caused laughter which fueled my daughter's rage.

......It seems that my youngest had overheard me joking with her older brother & sister about the First Thanksgiving, which was in fact nothing more than a football game between the Native Americans & the Pilgrims....and they had sent the women off to cook to keep them out of the way........Well the older ones were tickled by my obviously outrageous lie....but the young eavesdropper took it all to heart.

".......MY FATHER SAID SO!!!!!"

.........and so my little one was ready to take on all comers...she was (and is) fearsome when roused to anger, and stubborn as a mule train, being as she's so easy going relaxed otherwise. But when she's in the throes of righteous anger....watch out. Apache Warriors would run in fear.

.....The sad thing is....although she came to understand the situation upon further explainations....my mighty DAD pedestal began the slow inevitable process of crumbling on that day...........I felt so tall...like a prison wall.

To all my MOG friends....Thank you all.....

great story Jeff, my middle daughter is very fiery like that, but I can't really tell on what kind of pedastal I may have been placed...
I do recall a vain, slow motion grab trying to stop my three year old son from pulling the school fire alarm...seems like yesterday...yep, it flies by, don't it?...
    feast well...

If I'm personally thankful for anything this year (and last year, too), it's being here on this site and following such a colorful cast of characters.

In the immortal words of Richard Clare Danko, "Happy Thanksgiving".

REALLY OUTSTANDING STORY, DM!  That pedistal crumbles into a more enduring relationship.  I told my kids that when I was a boy, a huge tree blew down in hurricane Hazel, true.  My two fiends, chip and Scott, and I were sitting on the stump eating watermellon and they said if you rub the rind on the stump it will grow watermellon plants, true.  Then they did it and a week or so later, shoots started to grow, true.  But I didn't tell them they were just shoots of the tree, not watermellon.  My oldest one swallowed that one hook, lline and sinker.  It was so funny when she found out it wasn't true.  But at age 19, she is my sunshine and she still loves my stories.

Scot:  My #2 daughter did the same thing.  When I arrived to pick her and her brother up at the center she thought it was taking too long to get out of there, so she pulled the alarm.  It worked, sort of.

Madeline: I'll gladly share in the thanks and hugs for all Moggers.

Good story, deadman.  I'm proud of how my kids are starting their adulthood with at least some remaining trust in me.

...Hi Spike...My youngest (of four) is now 26.  My children would walk thru hell for me...& I for them.  But no one would have predicted that if they'd seen us during their teenage yrs.

There were times when she didn't think so, lol, but yes, I'm very proud of my relationship with all my children now.  We celebrate the mysterious miracle of our surviving their teenage years.   Believe me when I tell you.......Mother Theresa herself would have taken a 2x4 to my oldest daughter's head when she was a teen.  Lord knows i tried but could never catch her!
