I GUESS IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN.........

Posted almost 2 years ago

......MOG is under attack it seems by Uber spammers. Or at least it seems so to this man's corpse. We're being flooded with "posts" from people with more identities than Sybil. It is no longer useful or fun to follow "Most recent" posts by "MOGgers Only" because its now just a constant stream of non-posts by non-entities. I'm not sure, there are no studies to cite or anything....but I'll bet people are gettin' bored, not even bothering to lurk properly. We check our feeds & view those things of interest...which only grows the "clique-ish" attitude which so many of us fought to avoid......How will a newbie ever meet anyone if no one is reading current posts? Who wants to read current posts if its page after page of meaningless album titles & track listings? Of all the changes I've seen over the years at MOG....this one has me the most distressed & depressed. I have no idea how to solve such a thing...or indeed if i'm the only one feeling like this........ (Jim Lauderdale With Donna The Buffalo)

Chin up DMDM, don't let the bastards grind ya down! I hear that there is a special circle of hell reserved for spammers and child molesters and from what the devil tells me it's a doozie! =)

In other news, I resent that photo. As A cigarette smoker I am not sucking corperate cock by buying a product that may cause cancer and death. I am expressing my individuality by being anti-trend and doing that very thing that scociety is spending considerable time and money to irradicate! Smokers Of America Unite! Throw of the chains of borgoise government opression! (is it funny that I had to go find my copy of the Communist Manefesto to figure out how to spell that?) Anyway yeah freedom and all that shit!

yeah...about that....I decided to cruise through the mogger's posts myself a few days back and was identically distressed over the same obsevance. Apparently the mobile feed deals are the focus right now and everything else is left to gather dust, grow mold and mutate as the toxins want. It's too bad. Cruising the MOG posts is just one of many things missed from "back in the day". Heck, I can't even upload pics thru MOG anymore. I think it's something local with my machine and Flash player settings, but my query to the MOGlords went unnoticed.

Seriously, anyone who writes, "Anyway yeah freedom and all that shit!" gets past my velvet rope.  The problem DM mentions is that not every music lover is verbal; some prefer to offer music without comment.

My horse Jethro, well, he went mad, and I can't ever remember things being so bad.

Those who can imagine having the time to examine the flow of non-Trusteds' posts, much less keep up with more than a few of their Trusteds, they must get things done way faster than me, which is not saying much.

DM, what search words did you use to find the tryst photo, or is he you?  :-)

@Scotfree...the ideas as expressed by Mr Lynch are quite like those of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi....a holy man in the same league as P T Barnum himself.  When you think of it..ideas control the world & the people in it.  We only exist to have ideas that battle it out in some metaphysical parallel universe.  We're just the soil for ideas.  some of us are full of fertalizer.

Haha, David Lynch qoutes him there and he practices Trancendental Meditation and is a big supporter of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.  He did some concerts with Donovan, who told how meeting Maharishi inspired Hurdy Gurdy Man and George Harrison wrote a verse that was unrecorded, it was:

When the truth gets buried deep
Beneath the thousand years of sleep
    Time demands a turn-around
And once again the truth is found

here's a clip of just that part

I happened to chance a cross a cool book, for free, The Self God by Master Subramuniya.  I'd go with that before paying someone to teach me a technique.  Anyways I like how David Lynch explains the creative process and I've watched alot of videos from him that I find helpful. He also makes music, he has a studio at his places and people come down and jam, & he often writes words and helps write songs used in his movies.

Spike, when you click on any of these spam posts, you find not an individual offering music he likes without comment, but a track listing and link to a commercial download site.

Jeff, I'm afraid that the Mog-O-Sphere is very low on MOG's priority list. At this point I think it exists only as a supplement to the All Access for $$$$. Post about Sonic Youth and it will appear as a bit of extra fluff as you are picking out tracks to listen to.

It is SO curable. Have one MOG employee sign on once an hour and delete the accounts of new spam appearing on the MOS. The same was true when we were inundated with Lawyer spam. But I'm afraid MOG has no interest in maintaining any quality control over its social network.

    We are on our own.

what dermahrk said. what your post title says. before i quasi-returned to Mogging this year, i first talked myself into having a whole other set of expectations and motivations than i had before. i guess that helped a little.

Joxley...so good of you to drop by.  How goes the battle?

Ilay....I guess your right....we've had to adjust our expectation several times over the yrs as the MOG morphed...so as it continues to morph.....we roll with the punches.  I do not fully subscribe to what Mark asserts....though making a buck is important to the MOGfather et al........i do believe our community is important to them too.

    (hi, Mark.)

Pollyanna Jeff, i know this thread is 7 days old but I wanted to say that i think MOG's priority is content. ain't nuthin' wrong with that. community is somewhere below. me, i'm fine with content but i can get it from countless sites. it's not why i Mog. i've done my share of compromising ... i try to have more content-ful posts these days even though i don't even like explaining why i like the songs i like. i'm sad about the community. it's pretty much gone, i don't know whose fault that is, maybe no one's, maybe MOG just moved on.

...oopsie. long rant. sorry. back to real life... ;d
