RELAXIN' WITH THE MILES DAVIS QUINTET
-
Artist:
Another favorite from The Miles Davis Quintet, as they take on Sonny Rollins' "Oleo". For my money John Coltrane almost steals this show. The sense of shared adventure and simple joy of collaboration shines through so well in these sessions. They are not so much walkin' tightropes as they are rompin'. I've long thought of these sessions as seminal moments in the careers of both men, as they each set out on their own tortured path of discovery. Here they pay tribute to the conventions they would soon shatter & reassemble.
There were no rehearsals, no second takes, just (mostly) one marathon session that resulted in two plus albums. Glorious.

Lovely stuff. I tend to revisit Miles once or twice every year, and this is him, and his team, at their most creative
DM, your succinct, eloquent words covered the important points. The group's ideas and execution filled the piece to the brim with a powerfully alive nascent spirit ready to burst into new territory while making use of the traditional structure.
i'm a big big fan. beautiful.
