So Just Who Is That Lady?
-
Artist:
A lot of us here know The Isley Brother's second version of Who's That Lady. Even today, Ernie Isley's laser beam phase shifted guitar is a thing of firey grace.
Ah, but for Funky Friday we'll bring on the first version The Brothers' hit. Long before Ernie joined the band.
Kelly, Rudy, Ronnie and Vernon Isley were a Gospel singing family and were highly regarded in that field. The death of Vernon was a devastating loss and for a while the group broke up. (or more accurately, the family stopped singing).
But soon the remaining three were singing and recording rocknroll for a variety of small labels. Their cover of Twist & Shout made them stars.
So, recorded in January 1964, released in April of '64, the original Who's That Lady.

Sarah Palin, dummy. Love the new snazzy avatar!

looks like a Kia
Love at first sight? Dangerous stuff, that can be. Thanks for the tune.
Now that's some interconnectivity, back-to-back stylee...cool ride.
i just found Scott's post and then this. double whammy, baby. let me listen first...
alright, i see it now. the second one's more electronicized and rock-tinged, the first one's suavier and more chill.
well, now, it isn't the same lady, is it? different dress, different car. either one is probably dangerous.
This old version is new to me, and it's choice. Something about it reminds me of Curtis Mayfield's sound.
