Well, You Needn't

Posted over 3 years ago

This track is from my favorite era in Miles Davis' career, funky, cool, assured, and with subtle hints of the adventurism that would follow.

* Miles Davis - Trumpet * John Coltrane - Tenor saxophone * Philly Joe Jones - Drums * Red Garland - Piano * Paul Chambers - Bass

>>>>And to whom it may concern. Thanks for the emails & Mogmails, I appreciate the words of encouragement, and I laugh at the bilious screeds.

Its good to know that there are many more conservatives here than I thought, but You Needn't Have worried, I will not be silenced.

Cool Miles Davis track, new to me.  It's a Thelonious Monk tune.  I especially like  how Paul Chambers bows his solo.  Why don't more jazz string bassists do that?  It makes it so much easier to hear and also allows him to shape the notes better than plucking does.  Also, I like how Red Garland solos in a lower, more bass range or male vocal range than the typical tinkly treble piano solo.
