SUNDAY MORNING STONES IN MY PASSWAY

Posted about 2 years ago

I've said often in this forum that one of life's grand pleasures is helping a friend discover new music, or old music that slipped by. When someone says..."Wow, that's really great!", its a very good feeling. And when a friend hands you a cd and says..."You might like this"...Well............

....You take it & you look at the cover art.........
...and you say to yourself....."hhmmmmm, What The ........."? So you take it home & you pop it in the player............. ...and you're lost. Lost in the benign delerium of a new discovery. There's only one post, two years old, on MOG..but its a good one.

Bob Brozman is a Bluesman, much closer in spirit to the giants of old, or the "hired gun" guitarists of today than to the RockStarGuitarMasturbaters that are so often hailed as geniuses. Mr Brozman is well versed in the myriad roots of Americana & the world's folk music, weaving the disparate strands into a delightful multi-hued tapestry of bright vibrant colors & delicate nuance. Ragtime, pop music, blues, folk, topical songs...these have long been staples of the itinerate bluesman, and Bob Brozman carries that tradition like a well-worn guitar case. His reinvention of Robert Johnson's "Stones In My Passway" is radical, but soon makes perfect sense......... .......He's got such a deft touch, adventerous & humorous. Tango, anyone?

........So...What do you say to a friend to repay him for such a gift? Pay it forward.

Ya know DM2, I'm not a blues guy, and yet I have very fond memories of just such musicry being that which gave me the finest of evenings. This guy can certainly pluck, there's not doubt.

And MOG had it under our noses all this time and we didn't even realize it. Good tunes and what better way to pay it forward, than to expose it to the world via MOG.

DM, it's fun to read your eloquent conversational prose.  Amazing tracks.  Not only is Brozman a blues master, but, as the first and third tracks show, a master of early jazz and Hawaiian music.  inrumford was a modest commenter here not to mention his recent Bob Brozman post.  (Shame on MOG.  How many of our posts are not being searchable?)
