ALMOST MISSED SUNDAY UNDER THE COVERS

Artist:

What a great week-end. A gathering of friends on a nice relaxed, informal, holiday, far from the maddening crowds.
**Rick Nelson** had talent. There was no reason to suspect he would fare any better than any other TV stars of the late fifties & early sixties. But he proved to be a fair songwriter & a pretty good singer

I think Rick was one of the great ones from the 50s. I own a lot of Rick and, other than on compilations/samplers, none of Elvis.
Oh dermahrk, you contrarian you! I admire your power to resist the allure of the King. His voice was often way too florid for me (especially after he died in the Army), unlike Rick's, whose voice was understated. It's better to underdo it than to overdo it, I always say.
DM, great choice. Did any other mainstream rock or pop or even country singers back then in 1967 have Scruggs banjo? Rick could sometimes be hip.
Here's him doing "Hey There, Little Miss Tease" from his 1963 Decca album Rick Nelson Sings "For You". Check out James Burton's guitar solo at the 1:10 mark.
Luv it
It's all right now/I've learned my lesson well/You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself...

I'm more of a Bobby Darin guy
Spike, muchas gracias for that unheard Rick/James track. I thought that when I bought the RN box set that I would've gotten all the Mary Lou/Travelin' Man derivatives, shuffling along at that same tempo (which I love, by the way) but I missed that one. And it's not on iTunes, either. Grrrr....
Hey Jeff! Glad you didn't miss SUTC after all. In my mind, I have you so connected to this day, that I'd be worried if you did.
Here's to great weekends with great friends :)
