WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

I'm Posting This On A Dare. Sunday Under Covers With Slim Whitman

Posted about 1 year ago

Yes, the legendary **Slim Whitman** covers Rudolph Friml. Perhaps the best known version of this song was recorded by **Janet MacDonald & Nelson Eddie** , at least that's the version I had to suffer through way too many times while I was growing up. My dad loved that stuff.

So when I found this I e-mailed it to my sister who dared me to post it on my "music geek site".

So here it is. This guy does have an amazing voice, but........

I liked it. Wouldn't want to make a habit of it, but good for a listen.

Nothing all that exotic, Annie, just a neighborhood BBQ and one Tecate more than was advisable....

This is the song that saves Earth in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks!

Turns out the Martians' heads explode when exposed to it.

Oh come on Bill,  No redeeming social value?  I think he sounds like Ben Franklin's Armonica.

Slim calls to himself and answers himself. Because no one else will talk to him. ;-)

Native Americans yodel? Who knew? But I must say that I am unequivocally a Slim Whitman fan. Anyone with a voice that can destroy insidious enemies of the United States like those Godless Martians is okay in my book.

Seems to me there is a time and place (and ear) for everything. My dad listened to Irish folksingers--over and over and over... I have nightmares to prove it. And then there's the drinking he did. But, back to the song at hand--if it weren't for Slim Whitman there might never have been a Wilco, etc. But I generally avoid this kind of experience.
