I WAS GONNA POST THIS ON TOXIC TUESDAY........BUT YOU KNOW, "FUNKY" ALSO HAS A DIFFERENT MEANING

Posted over 2 years ago

When music snobs are sitting around talking music the name Big Star will often pop up, and snobs will nod sagely. (I know I do) & very often we will be thoroughly familiar with their whole (slim) catalog. & so Alex Chilton has attained a certain amount of cache among the illuminati...and oddly enough....this very cache is enough (for some) to hear everything he's done through the warm fuzzy gauze of adulation. Thus a track like this, far from being a self-indulgent ram-shackle sloppy piece of crap, is actually the work of a genius and should be venerated. That reminds me.....did anyone else listen to The President's State Of The Union Address?

I never watch political speeches, whether I love or hate the politician. They are just too damn boring, and I can read the high points the day after - and frequently the day before, as portions of the speech-to-come are released to the press.

There's some nice guitar on this. But otherwise - SFS (Sucks For Sure).  Though I own the first 2 Big Star albums, the terrible reviews of Alex's subsequent LPs have kept me from them. Besides which, while I like Big Star, I do not love them. Not sure they deserve their critical veneration.
