FEEL SO TALL LIKE A PRISON WALL

Posted almost 4 years ago

I have posted this song before. So? Shoot me.

This minor gem from The Band is such an incredible song.
"I feel so tall like a prison wall"

I stare at this incredible little person, marvel at the magic in her world and ache in my heart.

Her world is a world of easy answers and some adults who's infallablity is as unquestioned as the sun. Her love is shiney and sparkley and bubbly and a stark reminder of we lose as we grow older.

"'cause to her its all fantasy, and to me its all a mystery...."

She and the troll she's posing with sing the goofiest, most hillarious version of "Coconut" we've ever heard.

inrumford,  we lose it rollin' and tumblin' in this mean ole world.

Madeline,  I don't have the technology,  but surely you know Harry Nilsson's **Coconut**?

It is a mean ole world, but I guess our task is to offer encouragement to see and to walk on the sunny side of the street and to be there when they don't.

    But remember, positivity breeds positivity

It might be hokey, but "go forward. and let you smile be your guide"

I believe that.  Hokey?  Embaressing?  Most simple truths are.

"Coconut" is a great goof-off song DMDM, and the one you post is, by contrast, haunting and poingant. Is it that as we get older and learn we can't trust everybody, our walls get taller and taller as we protect those fragile "shiney and sparkley and bubbly" bits? They're still in there buddy!

That photo is pretty amusing, Jeff. The lovable gruff personality-boy on the left is totally eclipsed by the Ms. in-yer-face-slice-o'-life on the right. Allow a little jealousy from those of us old enough to have grandchildren, and don't.

Mog's been around long enough that I APPRECIATE songs being re-posted. The bootleg Beatle track "Goodbye" a couple of posts above yours is a another example - I know it's been posted before, but I wouldn't have heard it tonight if someone hadn't "done it again".

Hang in there, troll-boy. At some point every day. sun shines under your bridge.

Aaaaand..I'm getting a Mark Twain/Kurt Vonnegut troll-vibe from the above pic, once I can stop enjoying the grand-daughter.

ohhh i am so touched by this post.

i never knew what it meant to have someone who lights up my life until i met this boy, who is now 10 yo. he was born 4 days after my birthday, in a year when i was at a "marrying age" whereas my sister was probably too young to have him, and he looks, talks, acts so much more like me that everyone mistakes him as mine. don't worry - this isn't like a Rosemary's Baby story ;d - he is very much his mother's son but he changed my life so much so that i have complete appreciation for this post. thanks for a Monday sunburst, Jeff. (:
