  6. Petey Lapides says Hectic ??and?? somber. Does not sound good. I care. We care. I hope that helps. Thanks for taking the time anyway to post an SUTC memorial to Mr. McDaniels.

  7. Petey Lapides says Pardon our dust: Bo's real name was "Ellas Otha McDaniel," not "Ellas Otha McDaniels". Par for the course: I add and drop an "s" from the name of an author I've been reading for the past seven months, and I flubbed my sister's married name, Meyer not Meyers, for months. And who knows ??what?? to do about The Strange Case of Keith Richard(s)?

  8. Spike says Best wishes, DM. I like how Clapton and Robertson use Bo's beat for a song that Bo didn't use it for, and it's better with it here. Is there a song from the rock & roll era with better lyrics?

  9. uncle creepy says Couldn't resist posting this alternate live version by the SF hippie band with one of my favorite guitarists - John Cipollina and QMS perform Bo Diddley's signiture number, Who Do You Love. It boasts some serious fuzz midway thru. I dig the fuzz in the Clapton & Robertson version as well - thanks!

  11. uncle creepy says Spike nailed it... I'll add that no other song from the rock n roll era has lyrics that evoke pre-code horror so well. Check what Malcom Jones wrote in a eulogy for Bo at Newsweek online: The logic and coherence of the words to "Who Do You Love?" are worthy of Lorenz Hart: "I got 47 miles of barbed wire/I use a cobra snake for a necktie/I got a brand new house by the road side/Made from rattlesnake hide/I got a brand new chimney up on top/Made from a human skull/Now come on, baby, take a walk with me now/And tell me, who do you love?" Oh, but the sweet nothings have only begun: "The night was dark and the night was blue/Around the corner an ice wagon flew/A bump was hit and somebody screamed/You shoulda heard just what I seen." Chuck Berry may have been funnier. Jerry Lee Lewis may have been more possessed. Little Richard may have been more outrageous. The operative word in all three sentences is "may." And no one else even came close. "I got a tombstone hand and a graveyard mind, I lived long enough and I ain't scared of dying." - Bo Diddley

  12. Spike says Thank you, U.C.! I have to add that the melody was not at that level of unforgettability, but it delivered the lyrics admirably.

  14. Bartleby says At long last, the Walking Corpse of MOG has been paid his due!!! Congratulations on being Mogger-of-the-Week!!! Your profile was a lovely read. If I understood correctly, if one held a gun to your head, you'd choose "Revolver." You've certainly got a way with words, Jeff!!! (PS: Get well and back soon)
