CATASTROPHIC WEEKEND BLUES. WITH APPROPRIATE SOUNDTRACK FROM MR DYLAN

Posted about 2 years ago

......When i got home from work on Friday...i should have recognized the symptons, but i didn't.....Wifey went out shopping & I was lurking on the MOG. The house was cool...but not unusualy so. Anyway....upon waking this morning....56degrees F....in the house!.....it was apparent something was amiss. Long story short.....my beloved furnace....from the first Ming dynasty, I believe,.....is not quite dead....its up & running for now...after a grimey afternoon of colorful configurations of anglo-saxon vulgarities, skinned & burned knuckles, yet more colorful invectives strung together in new & exciting ways, & and a new respect for boiler repairmen.....but the ole gal ain't long for this world. Her seals are shot & there's a hairline crack in the front plate. Can't quite afford a new one tho......so, its chilly in here, but not freezing.

.......I'm asked all the time....(ok, not really. Just once...& it was me asking....) "Have you reconsidered your first impressions on Dylan's Christmas cd?"

.....Well, yes & no. Although it is still somewhat embaressing, I enjoy listening to it from time to time. Its just so difficult to wrap my head around........I mean....this is DYLAN for crying out loud. He's certainly earned the right to do whatever he wants......but......I don't know. Much of it feels like rough tapes handed over to whomever for some atrocious over-dubbing (We're sure Phil Spector is still locked up, right?

(There was supposed to be a clever photo here but all i got was.....

"image upload failed because of DataMapper::ObjectNotFoundError."

........does anyone know what that means?)

Yeah, it mean Mog image upload is on the fritz and has been for some time. The only way to get a photo into your post is to open a separate brouser window with the image in it and then drag and drop the image into you post.

    Ask me how I know...

His Bobness has commented on all the negativity accorded his yuletide offering. I tried to find the article but couldn't. If I come across it again I'll post.

I do recall it was a typical bob retort

Our furnace decided to give us some attitude last winter. What I learned: a wood-burning stove is a wonderful thing. We had kind-of a Little House on the Prairie week or so. Nerve-wracking, but in a strange way reassuring to know that things like this can be survived.....

BF: CHRISTMAS ISLAND is a wacky song! Santa’s going to sail in with your presents in a canoe. Where did that come from? You ever been to Christmas Island?

BD: No I’ve never been there. I have no idea where the song comes from, who wrote or even if there is such a place.

    ROTMFFLMMFAO!!!!!

After a Google! and Bing search, I can state that there are TWO "Christmas islands," one NW of Australia, discovered in 1643 (10 degrees, 30 seconds N x 105 degrees, 40 seconds E), the other at 1 degree, 56 minutes North x 157 degrees, 24 minutes West, discovered in 1777. Kritimati, discovered in 1777 by Capt. James Cook, is canoe-friendly, though both have been Phosphate/Guano islands in the past. The song was written by Lyle Moraine in 1946, and has been covered by many artists over the years, from The Andrews Sisters to Leon Redbone.

Well good luck with the furnace. We had ours replaced a couple years ago (in July) figured we escape the breakdown in the coldest days by replacing before hand.

Dylan doesn't seem like a Christmas song artist but the spirit can capture anyone I guess.

Since I am unfamiliar with this song, Bob's treatment of it does not seem strange at all. This must be a high point of the album. I like it! dergrump likes it!

We just put some green in our furnace after about 2 weeks without any heat. Even though we are in California, we do still need heaters on at night and the time without any heat was not fun at all. Good luck keeping the old girl going.

As for pictures- you can do it like Rummy- he got that tip from a very reliable source. You can also try using a different browser for the post and upload. I tried using Google Chrome last night when some people were chatting about it, and it worked just fine without errors.

Try that browser, FF, and even the browser in Real Player or Winamp, if you like. One of those will most likely work.

Finally, Dylan doing or even wanting to do Christmas music is a hard concept to take in. But I got through it.

Gotta respect the guy a bunch and, yes I like his treatment of these classics. Very interesting read Rummy. Thanks for bringing this to my attention DMDM. I probably wouldn't have sought it out on my own.
