WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

War Pig/ Cake (and eat it too)

>>>>1) I think **Cake** is (are) under appreciated as interpreters of others' work. They reimagine **War Pigs** not too differently, but instead of sludge we get a crystallized sound and a bass that's nervous and edgy creating a tension not found in **Sabbath's** version.>>>>2) I wonder why I can open my DVD player from across the room using my remote? >>>>3) REM's new cd disappoints only in so far as their attempt to come full circle misses the mark. Its great. Loud, crunchy rocknroll couching Michael's anger and angst, and atmospherics that recall ??a recollection?? of **Document**, **Green** without the pop.But the spunky garage band from Athens is a museum piece now. The Lo-Fi lads who traveled into the rarefied air of cultural icons cannot return. Their attempted return to their swampy roots and warm rocking beginnings has produced polished steel instead. Glistening sharp edges shellacked over, safe as milk. But hey, what do I know?>>>4) I am often asked why I dress all in black. My answer is always the same."??Are you friggin' colorblind or sumpin'???">>>5) What have they done to my song, Ma?>>>6) Do you mean to tell me you think that Oliver Stone taught you history? My god we're fu*&ed.And really, who could ask for more?

  8. consumerx says Love that cover and the album, generally. Different genre, but their take on a Barry White classic is lot's of fun too. I especially like the sort of cascading old school arcade game guitar going on.

  9. dermahrk says Re #2: It's so you can practice trying to throw the DVDs like frisbees until you finally get one in the player from a distance. Then you celebrate by going out and buying replacement DVDs for the ones you scratched to death.
