DOLLY DOES BOB SUNDAY! UNDER THE COVERS!

Posted about 4 years ago
Two things stand out when discussing the music of **Dolly Parton** ; Her incredible voice & her ear for a good song. Though she was often saddled with overblown arrangements in her early years, as she gained power she gained more artistic control, allowing her to stretch and explore the great World Songbook. So here she is, with **Nickel Creek** doing yet ??another?? version of **Blowin' In The Wind**

  1. dermahrk says I own a bit of Dolly - her two "bluegrass" CDs and the 80s LP ??Here You Come Again?? I heard a lot more when I subscribed to an internet radio arrangement. But I find her output to be frustratingly inconsistent. She seems to either be really good - or terrible. I like this, though. It falls in the middle.

  2. zarpex says I'd also credit Dolly Parton with writing some excellent material of her own, including "Nine to Five," which is one of the six or seven authentically good country songs I know of ("pour myself a cup of ambition"; WOW)... When I was younger, saying of Dolly Parton that "two things stand out" would have yielded big laughs...

  3. Cody B says OK so Z beat me to the punch (line). It is not only good artistically, but smart business-wise for her to branch out from the mainstream country stuff. Not a shabby version at all.

  4. runobodyii says Fine cover. In my infancy I used to love that show of hers, everything but the cleavage and the wigs and the girly laugh. What that left, search me.

  6. earthman says I saw a story about her once, her big family and looking after all her sisters and brothers, it changed how I felt about her,

  7. Spike says I liked how she ended by improvising on the melody a bit. Her voice in this song was somewhat fraught, as it often is.

  8. Sturgell says OK I admit it. I love Nickel creek. I heard them on Prairie Home Companion about 4 years ago and from then on I'm just diggin it.

  9. deadmandeadman says Yeah, I like Nickel Creek too. Not what I play each time I listen to music, but often enough.
