....I'm not sure if it was a national or regional promotion but Appleby's offered free dinners today to Veterans & active duty personnel. I spent the afternoon with two old vets of WWII, to fellow Vets from Nam, & two from Desert Storm. We didn't swap war stories, but each of us retreated, during the quiet interludes, into our own place. When I'm lucky its just snapshots. When I'm not........
....We sat there, each clinging to the new-found camaraderie to try to avoid the toxic shock of memory, the soul scorching visions we've never let anyone into......Tears for what we were...tears for ....what had to be done....tears of relief & tears of infinite grief.
...And so the deadman is a bit drunk. Happy Veteran's Day

Happy veterans day deadman. I thank you for your part in protecting our way of life. I'm always struck silent on occasions like this. unable to find words to say. I spent the day with my uncle who was in the marienes during nam. I can't even imagine what went on over there or how it felt to face somthing like that. But I'll raise my glass to your heath and thank you.

Thanks for your service and all the service of the Vets. Days like these, I'm sure, can be bitter sweet. I can't even imagine having to live with memories of war. I just missed being drafted. My number was coming up just as the draft ended. God bless you and all who serve(d).
