STOP!!!! OPINION & COMMENTARY
.....There are plenty of windmills out there. And the hot vicscuous air of political animus keeps 'em spinnin & spinnin. The dialog of American politics has always been free-wheeling, raucus & profane. But the advent of the mass media & the subsequent birth of the pervasive niche media to amplify the noise coupled with the general coursening of our culture has led us, as a nation, into a balkanized group of special interests tugging at Uncle Sugars cuffs, wanting "whats ours". This sense of entitlement has had a corrosive affect on civic dialog as special interest groups large & small scramble for their place at the trough. And of course the niche media keeps 'em happy with all the "news" they wanna hear. So folks can go on believing (for instance) that the global warming phenomenon has been verified, causes identified, and that our fearless leaders are out there fighting the good fight. & everything these folks listen to or read tells them so, and so they believe.
........And so we come to a point where our President is whining about cable news. He is now trying to whip up his base....his troops.....& oh yes, it works. I hever heard many a.......citizen...... proudly proclaim they would NEVER watch FOX news. Even people here on the MOG.
....But whatever his feelings.....as political strategy....it seems questionable at best. Now, truth be told, people getting the bulk of their news from the television.....are severely mis-served. That having been said........FNC has been trouncing all the competition combined & the audience is expanding. Newspapers such as the NY TIMES & The Boston Globe & countless other "liberal" newspapers are loosing subscribers by the hundreds monthly. While the NY POST is gaining subscribers constantly.
......It seems clear that the centrists & moderates & the great middle class are rapidly loosing faith in the current administration.
......And so it seems strange that our President chooses to antagonize so many people. His churlish boycott of FNC is backfiring badly & in panic mode he's back out on the stump....preachin to HIS chior.........and they're lapping it up. But will it be enough to preach to the already converted? We'll see.

As a political strategy point, I think you have a point. In his indictment of the media he should've included everyone..that would be better..or made an indictment of all infotainment masquerading as news..and news masquerading as opinion.
Is Fox News delivering Infotainment, opinion masquerading as news, and offhand commentary by regular (I'm talking the morning show people) hosts on politics, that fits an agenda...YES they are.
Is FOX the only network that does this...Absolutely NOT..this is why Obama misses the mark if he takes on FOX only.
What we all need to do is get over the idea of fair and balanced and accept that there are agendas that media outlets have...
1)Make Money 2)Create Conflict (because conflict creates viewers.)
On the other hand, why should the President be afraid to stand up to an entity because it was popular...He said he was going to call out folks in the healthcare debate, and FNC has been a cosistent echo chamber for garbage info and opinion in this debate.
As a New Yorker and a person who looks at The Post from time to time...The New York Post is a terrible newspaper. I don't care about it's political slant..there just isn't hardly any news in the paper..Great Sports Section though! Although I like the writers at the Daily News Sports section better.
The top brass may be liberal at the New York Times, but the paper gives you more unslanted, detailed news coverage that is actually reported by people on the scene than any other paper printed in the United States. Yes, editors select stories for political impact, but the actual coverage of national and world events is top notch. There's also the arts coverage, local coverage, the magazine, etc, etc.
There is no comparing the New York Times to The Post or The Daily News (The Daily News outcirculates the Post). The News and Post are tabloid papers and the New York Times actually attempts to cover all the news in the world. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it has more information than any other paper.
Finally (apologies to Jon Stewart).....Is there a liberal media? Or is Fox News #1

Nice song even though I don't sleep late in the morning.
Oh, so there u r
@ Cody B........it troubles me that alot of people get their world view from the likes of either of the above.
......But Mr Stewart is well known for his "creative editing"
Cody B.....you say
"The top brass may be liberal at the New York Times, but the paper gives you more unslanted, detailed news coverage that is actually reported by people on the scene than any other paper printed in the United States."
......I'm not sure how that OPINION was formulated. But it flies in the face of all evidence. As reported by various INDEPENDANT media watch-dog groups.
Great vids, and posts.
....How many regular readers of the TIMES know why President NOT BUSH has so many Czars?
....How many readers of the TIMES know that one of his Czars needed a friggin ETHICS WAVER? (Where else but Washington & Chicago would such a thing exist?)
Ok, I have avoided like the plague this thread for about 24 hours, but I am going to dip my toes in, if only for a moment.
Points:
1. Carefull Deadman, they will call you a racist
2. Having traveled a little in Europe, I think I saw enough of the "rest of the world" to have my little bubble pop right in my face. The United States of America is not the greatest country on earth.
3. American Citizens are generally
A. Lacking in attention span
B. Narrow minded to a fault on all issues
C. Too proud and hard headed to listen
D. Ignorant of their own heritage, history, political system and general concepts of economics and sociology
E. Are the first to spit up an opinion on how to "fix things".
F. Are so impatient and greedy they can not even be bothered to read/research or gather information on an issue or topic from several point of views, so they pick their socially acceptable outlet (NAACP outlets like Southre Black Baptist Convention and their print media, or FOX News, or CNN, or Talk Radio or Print Media or random former VJ from the early days of MTV who on a comedy network found his nitche talking out his arse on politics in order to make fun of conservative ideals while pretending to be a bastion of that line of thought).
G. Can generally tell you the plot line to LOST or Heroes, who is on Dancing with the Stars, who their favorite contestant is on American Idol and can recite the lyrics to lady Ga GA songs, while texting with one hand about what they are doing to their Tuner Honda this weekend, but FAIL to know who their Secretary of State is.
H. Will flip flop on an issue at the drop of a hat, just to appear to themselves in the mirror and their friends that they are socially concious.
I. Have no idea that PETA is a terrorist organization
J. Could not tell you the first thing about why half the middle east is pissed off at us, much less conceive that most of them have every right to be.
4. I am an American Patriot, I have been to war Twice, served 19 years in the United States Military, and continue to do so.
5. I do not agree with most americans or the absolute uninformed garbage coming out of their pathetic mouths, but I am willing to die for their right to spew it.
6. At the end of the day, it is not someone elses fault you are in the socio/economic situation you are in, it is solely your own. If a black man can be president of the leader of the free world, a Latin can sit on its highest court, a Persian can be the richest man in the world, an Asian can set the standard for technology, then your fresh out of excuses.
7. Canadians still suck at baseball
8. Rant/Off
Dang!
Rant on my friends ... I however, will continue to lurk.
Oh and I hope you all are listening to music while doing this, it takes the edge off.
"I do not agree with most americans or the absolute uninformed garbage coming out of their pathetic mouths, but I am willing to die for their right to spew it."
.........On the left....I may not always agree with what you say but i'll do everything i can to silence you.
& @Ghost...Thank you for your service. This Vet salutes you.
CZARS, you are talking about czars..that isn't even their official title..The thing is, no matter what side is in power, their folks get shit on by the opponent. Again, you can flip what you say about Obama appointees to Bush appointees. It happens every time. Save the outrage. I mean, c'mon..remember Brownie. The Republicans and Democrats make up the system..if you want to change the system..I'm with you. Otherwise it is just political gamesmanship. (which I also enjoy.)
Clearly you can't go to one place for news..but if I could pick just one to give me the news for where I live, our country, and the rest of the world it would be the New York Times. Of course that's my opinion..and I'm sticking with it.
I agree with quite a few things the ghost said..education, for all the rhetoric on both sides, gets the short end of the stick here...and it shows.
The irony of "So folks can go on believing (for instance) that the global warming phenomenon has been verified, causes identified..." is palpable. Read realclimate.org, and two things become rather clear: 1) There is far less controversy within the scientific community about the nature and causes of global warming than there is outside the scientific community; and 2) the incompetence of the media in reporting on scientific issues is largely responsible for #1.
Which brings me to irony #2: wherever did you get the idea that the White House is boycotting Fox News? From Fox News?
