THREE YEARS AGO TODAY!! HOORAY!!
-
Artist:
......Three years ago today i signed on to the MOG after reading posts for a couple of days. I knew nothing, zero, zilch...about computers. My daughter had set me up with a password on her laptop & had taught me how to search for things.........Bob Dylan was the first search i did & somehow in all the thousands & thousands of entries that just boggled my mind..i clicked on one & i was reading a MOG post about Bob's new cd.
I was soon entranced by this place as it seemed to be peopled by people like me!!! People for whom music is far, far more than...tomorrow's trend or the choice of the herd.
So i signed on & offered an opinion here n there & soon i had a MOG who trusted me. I had no idea what that meant & being suspicious & not wanting to take a chance with my daughter's computer I didn't trust him back. I explained all that to dermarhrk, he laughed & explained further & really he was my first guide here. The second MOGger to trust me (mind you i was still suspicious, lol) was one of the MOGosphere's most beautiful & vivacious spirits, the always sunny Anna. To gether they convinced me there was no nefarious consequence in bestowing trust & that it really didn't mean much at all...just a way of keepin current...They became my two first trusteds. It may surprise some to learn what a truely warm & friendly & PATIENT guy dermahrk is. Thanks Mark! (hell, he even found my first ((&still favorite) avatar). & i'm sure it will surprise no one to learn that Anna is gracious & witty & wise beyond here delicate years.
.....In my time here I've made some very good friends though i've yet to meet any in the flesh. Odd how some things can be discussed here that would be just too difficult in person. And that works on so many levels. I have often injected...no..bad word....I have often infested the MOG with rants more political than "musical". (THough my posts without music are rare indeed, even if the music is irrelevent to the conversation, but thats rare too). Some resent it, some are anxious for a good debate/discussion, some yawn & let it slide....whatever.
.....Thats the MOG, to me anyway. I hear some lamenting the loss of the close communal feeling that once was...but i still see it...just new faces to replace those who drift away. The list of brilliant stars that blazed a path through our world & disappeared is too somber to ponder. Still though...i often stop & think about.............
.........King Crimson.....Lament.
...& still. ...here we are. Ever searching, ever sharing our insights, opinions, & perspectives, & views. We anxiously await the surprises to come dancing on pins & needles.

Ladies Of The Road
....there were so many things i wanted to mention tonight, so many artists & bands. So many friends present & past. But one thing we learn early is that nothing will last.
# ONE GREAT REASON TO MOG........ time, of all things, allowed me to accept that none of these was ever going to outlast the present, which keeps happening.".....POEBEGONE
...nothing lasts except right now, which is always happening.
.....And of course
....without whom...........Thank you.
There are so many who deserve a shout but........
....and the astute observer will note the complete absence of Porcupine Tree tracks in this post

Many happy returns, man. You're truly a cornerstone of this place....
great story! happy MOGiversary deadmandeadman!! any many morrrrrrrrrre! and many thanks to yr daughter, indeed...
I watched your posts for a while, and I must have read a couple of rants, cuz I avoided trusting you for a while. After a short time, something you said revealed the underbelly, and I knew there was a softy hidden in there somewhere. And I got to know you better.
Excellent post Jeff! You're a gentleman.
but what's with the prog? :-)
whoa.
when i read this story, i wanted to go back to a thread where Moggers were posting bios of sorts that were pretty awesome. i went to view your previous posts and realized that jumping to page 9 only got me back about 3 months. i realized that i was in over my head when i noticed that there were 115 pages. i started seeing the Xmas posts around page 32 and figured i was in the ballpark since my post in that thread had been in December 08. on page 34, i found:

sounds like a lot of work, but actually only took a minute or two and i was glad i went there. always loved that thread and your story was not only a good one, but it also fit in quite well with your first MOG search. happy 3, man.
Hey, congrats on the mile marker and many happy years to come, Jeff. Like I said to you before, we can't have you down or out. You are a cornerstone of this place- or at least have been for the time I've been around and this place would not be the same without you- rants and all. And it's been a pleasure getting to know you and talking with you.
Don't feel bad about not knowing anything when you came here. I didn't even "get" how to respond to those that made comments. I kept looking for a reply button, before I tried just putting something in the comment box and hitting publish. I felt so stupid.
Great post. Should make the home page or the gazette (hint, hint Britt).
My earliest memory of you: January 17 of '07 I mentioned John Philip Sousa in a comment on one of your posts, and you replied that you were a fan of his. Eureka! Someone who likes something besides rock! Since then you've cut a wide MOG swath. With 1156 posts and 8794 comments, wit and an ear, you might even be one of the top 100 moggers :-) !! :-) !! :-) !!
Happy Anniversary, dmdm!
Keep it up!
live and loud is better DM Keep the entertainment and enlightenment coming
congrats... nice to see that there are still a number of old timers still here.
JEFF!!! I remember our interaction like it was yesterday; was it really 3 years ago? Naaawww! Thank you so much for the kind words!
Love you lots, and it's a great pleasure to have you here.
Many happy rocking returns; HAPPY MOGNIVERSARY!!!!

Gruff (and bony)...but lovable. Rawk on Deadman²
3 years...passes so very quickly. MOG has been (and continues to be) a remarkable place. Congrats on lasting the duration.
Rattle on, Bone-man.
...and you held up Derhmark's honorable tradition, as you (and fisty) fostered me into the MOGiverse. been quite the pleasure to make your aquaintance, oh fleshless one. This journey would be much diminished without ya!!
Happy Mogiversary Jeff...
Mog wouldn't be mog without you.
Well.
Bill, I thank you for your patient, reasoned responses, & your invaluable guidence through a world of music i knew nothing about.
@Mollifire, I'll pass the message, lol. Thanks
@capndad....i know exactly what you mean. & i always said i have a small library of Goth from back in the day. Although simplicity is my cuppa...i occasionaly go for the grandiose (King Crimson) & the downright pretentious (King Crimson) LOL.
@Robin...Thank you for that. Memories & Friends & Hey, thats the MOG
@Rex, its so funny you say that as you are my technical guru. You are another infinitely patient soul
@ Spike. El Capitain, I believe it was, right? You've been a good teacher & a great friend
@Naomi....Thank you. You're too kind
@Oatmeal, my man. Thank you. How's the family?
@mitchy! Oh yes! Live & pounding. Rock on!! Thank you
@cpetersonart3...yeah there are some real veterens still hangin on & great newcomers everyday.
@Anna. I'll never forget our first few exchanges. Thats when i knew you were a beautiful spirit. I envy the one who is strong enough to catch your heart and brave enough to hang on. The world is yours, Girl. Shake it down for all its worth. Love you tons & and love your taste in music.
@Cody B. Gruff? You cut me to the quick! You're the man, dude. You can be as pointed and sharp as a laser knife while remaining civil & maintaing a sense of decorum. I really admire that. Thanks for bein a friend.
@amber...i agree. the people here make the MOG a wonderful place!
@spike1. Thanks guy, I'm rattlin, don't worry!
@scotfree...you are more teacher than student, my friend. I always enjoy your music posts, & your commentary on my political posts is always insightful. Sometimes you flash your anger & sometimes you flash you're wit. But you are another who does so in a civil & entertaining manner. & I toast your Bungles! They beat Pittsburgh!! Yeeeeeha!
@annie...so nice of you to say that, but i'm just one small dim light in a blanket of stars.
Thanks everyone
Happy anniv, Jeff! I still remember your comment - it was about Neil Young's Impeach the President, and I immediately said to myself "I LIKE this guy!".
That, my friend, has never changed.
Thanks Mark, I'll always appreciate your droll humor & and patient manner. If not for you...me & the MOG may have been just ships passing in the night.
Blame dermahrk, everybody!!!
Jeff...where did those three years go? Hard to believe. Words can't describe the emotions of reading your posts but in the words of the Bee Gees, "It's only words...and words are all I have...".
Happy MOGiversary and keep 'em coming.
*P.S. Dermahrk is to blame for The Time Machine in those early days as well so let's start a club.
.........The dermahrk fan club! We'll meet once a year & grumble bout something!
jeezus christ, Jeff, you're a hard man to catch. this post did not show up until page 3 of your All Posts, harumph. the funny thing is i did not "meet" you until i've been Mogging for maybe over a year. this is another huge reason i stay - you never know who's going to turn up and show you the world from another brilliant perspective - and the odds are much better here than elsewhere. suffice it to say i can not imagine MOG without your presence here.
say, isn't said daughter a Mogger as well? ...and why not??
