ANOTHER WORD ABOUT THE GUITAR SOLO.

Posted about 4 years ago
RSchaut wrote a very good essay on the art of the guitar(ist's) solo. You should "read it here":http://mog.com/RSchaut/blog_post/143487#write-comment .But there is another kind of guitar solo I'd like to talk about here.I'm talking about the incredible brilliance that is occasionaly showcased in the solos of the simple three minute song.George Harrison always leaps to mind in this regard. His tastefull solos within rigid frameworks have always delighted this listener. Now **Ringo's "Back Off Boogaloo"** is a case in point. George's guitar through-out is a delight, but the solo he takes is MOGnificent. Slippery, smooth yet frantic, it has always stood out as the only redeeming factor for this simpl(istic) little slam at **Paul McCartney**

  1. dermahrk says Definitely the best part of this song, which is otherwise dull and uninspired. This song is a slam against Macca? I've never heard that. Ringo seems to genial to get into post-Beatle slams. Where is your evidence, sir?

  2. deadmandeadman says "Let's Go meathead, don't pretend that you are dead Pick yourself up off the cart Get yourself together now and give me something tastey Everything you try to do you know it just sounds wasted." "You think you're a groove Standing there in your wallpaper shoes And your songs that match your ties." Mark, The flipside **Blindman** leaves no doubt.

  5. Spike says Another great Harrison bottleneck solo to savor. Yes. The lyrics, however, are too camouflaged to mean anything poetic on their own, or too petty as criticism of McCartney. Lennon's "How Do You Sleep" had the same problem, as well as a great Harrison bottleneck solo to savor. A pity McCartney earned these diatribes, and that Lennon-McCartney couldn't have continued semi-sweetening each other's song elements into old age.
