ALBERT HAMMOND Sr

  • Artist:
    Albert Hammond Sr
  • Track:
    Down By The River
**Albert Hammond Sr** was a bit ahead of his time with this song, a follow-up to his hugely successful **It Never Rains In Southern California**. A minor hit for a few weeks, it was here n then gone.Too bad, its worth hearing.

  1. inrumford says I vaguely recall hearing this tune at one time. Kinda in the signs, signs, everywhere are signs vein My initial thought upon hearing "Down by the river" was that at least he won't have to shoot his baby, the river will kill her!! Anyway, thanks for the post

  3. zarpex says Tree-hugger! Tree-hugger! But seriously; I've adored that song since I first heard it as a kid, and never knew it was by Albert Hammond (I will, on consideration, dispense with the "Sr.," and instead let his son be distinguished from him by a "Jr."). It will shortly be in my iTunes alongside "I'm a Train" and "The Free Electric Band." And I don't mean to carp, but the inclusion of those comic strips leaves the impression that you're somehow trying to apologize for or counteract the decidedly "green" message of the song. I assure you there's no need. After all, if you restricted your listening to conservative musicians, you'd be left only with... Um... Ted Nugent? Um... Hmm... Skrewdriver? Um...

  4. deadmandeadman says Zee dude, I am conflicted in my reaction to "global warming". On a strictly scientific level, its a known quantifiable comodity, identifiable on all the planets. "Global warming" on a political level has reached heights of absurdity not seen since the "global cooling" prognostications of the '70's.

  5. dermahrk says The inclusion of the comic strip leaves NO impression, since I can't read it due to the MOG steamroller. When the fuck are they going to fix this?

  6. zarpex says dead, I recall reading somewhere that there may be evidence of a warming trend on Mars, but I wasn't aware that there were signs of it on all the planets. But I'll leave that aside; what really struck me about your comment was that you expressed conflicted feelings at all. I have conservative friends and family members with whom I often enjoy good-natured, friendly political debate, and apart from my aunt (who actually changed her party affiliation a few years ago, and is now an Obama proselytizer), the image (stereotype?) I've come to form of conservatives is that "conflicted" is all but absent from their dictionaries. You've impressed me. And I apologize for listing Skewdriver as a "conservative" band; that was rude and disrespectful of me. I do know better than to think republicans are typically racist, or that liberals are somehow above it. I should have said Sonny Bono. : )
